Hi.
I have a full width Revolution Slider on the homepage of a site I’m developing.
Recently – I think after a recent Rev Slider plugin update – the slider is splitting into two identical columns. Then, the ken burn I’ve set on a slide’s background image is only showing on the right-hand column.
See here for an example of what I mean…

I’ve hunted everywhere to see if there’s something causing this, but I can’t find anything. I’ve tried playing with pretty much all the slider’s settings, reinserting the RevSlider shortcode into my page, and I’ve even tried recreating the slider from scratch. The same thing happens every time.
Am I missing something obvious? Or is there a problem?
Any help gratefully accepted!
Thanks,

You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
Thanks
October 12, 2015 at 9:28 am #621616Thanks.
I already tried that. Even if the only active plugins are Cornerstone and Revolution Slider, the problem is still there. Even after refreshing my browser cache as well.
The issue is something to do with the ken burn settings in Revolution Slider. If I turn these off, the slider works fine. As soon as I turn ken burns on to use a gentle pan zoom, the issue returns.

Thanks for the additional information!

October 13, 2015 at 8:21 am #623189Hi.
I’ve reviewed the post you linked to, followed the steps it suggests, and still not had any luck getting my slider to work.
For clarity, here are some details:
X version: 4.1.0
Revolution Slider version: 5.0.6
All plugins except for Revolution Slider and Cornerstone have been deactivated.
I’m using the Revolution Slider layout element in Cornerstone to insert the slider into my page. The problem is this: as soon as I activate “ken burns” on my slider, the slider itself splits into two identical columns, and the ken burn effect is applied to the right-hand column (see attached screenshot 1). This happens whether the slider is set to full width or a fixed width (see screenshot 2).
I’ve tried resaving the slider, adjusting widths and other settings that may be connected (e.g. parallax effects etc) and playing with column settings in Cornerstone (e.g. columnless container, marginless columns etc) to see if they make any difference. I’ve even recreated the slider from scratch, with nothing on it apart from a single slide with background image. It’s worth nothing that the problem is only visible on the live site and in Cornerstone. In Revolution Slider’s own preview, it works fine.
The only way I’ve found of stopping this happening is to turn ken burns off. When I do so I get a single image across the slider, as intended.
I hope you can help me solve this problem, as I’ve run out of ideas.
Thanks,
MikeOctober 13, 2015 at 9:01 am #623260Hi Mike,
Try playing with ken burns settings.
I tried changing the scal % from 100 to 200 and you can see the effect in your page.

Hope that helps
October 20, 2015 at 9:32 am #632616Thanks for the tips, but changing the ken burns settings doesn’t get rid of the issue of the background image splitting in two, and the pan zoom effect only being applied to one side.
The result I’m looking for, and which I had before the update, is a simple image pan zooming from 105% to 100%. So the image should start off slightly zoomed in, filling the boundaries of the slider, and then zoom out gradually for the duration of the slide (in this case 9000ms). At no point should the image be split into two!
However, it looks like this is a bug, so – for now at least – I’ll have to do with the pan zoom. It’s disappointing, but there doesn’t seem to be a better solution.
October 20, 2015 at 9:36 am #632625Unbelievable – after writing that I’ve just found the solution!
In cornerstone, the column that contains the Revolution Slider was set to centre-aligned. I’ve changed it to left-aligned and the problem has gone! Interestingly (and unexpectedly) turning the alignment off doesn’t solve the problem – the column has to be set to either left, right or fully-aligned, NOT centre or no alignment.
Weird. But happy that I’ve found it. Hopefully if anyone else is having this issue they’ll find this thread too.

If you need anything else, please let us know 🙂
November 26, 2015 at 10:23 am #680310Thanks Mike, I had been pulling my hair out about this and even raised a similar request only to be told that the issue was entirely with revolution slider.
Looks like the culprit was cornerstone after all.
Maybe this needs to be fixed by X as it is likely to cause issues down the line with new setups that do not bother to set an alignment value.
November 26, 2015 at 11:45 am #680385Hi Steve,
Thanks for writing in!
Cornerstone just applies the styling to its own elements. Other elements like Revolution Slider should consider these styling and override them to avoid conflicts. However, I’ll forward this to our developers for further investigation.
Thank you!
November 27, 2015 at 11:36 am #681416Quick update here. Being implemented via a shortcode, Revolution slider should compensate for any environment that it is placed in. Shortcodes (especially in plugins) need to provide explicit styling for any cases where the parent styling can not be determined ahead of time. This seems like quite a rare occurrence, involving a very specific set of settings and conditions, so it’s understandable that it has not received more attention until now. This is something that will need to be addressed in Revolution Slider. It could just as easily occur in any other theme. We’ll be sure to give them a heads up about the issue.
April 14, 2016 at 1:55 am #881601Thanks Mike & Theme.co! I have spent a fair amount of time trying to fix the same issue therefore I am pleased I found this thread with a solution.
Revolution Slider 5.2.4.1 is still having the same issue.
April 14, 2016 at 5:17 am #881918Glad to hear the solution worked for you, Giulio! 🙂
