JaneyGParticipantHello,
I love X-Theme and how versatile it is for various designs. However, I have had some javascript errors from revolution slider as well as indexing issues showing up in Google Webmaster for the home page which displayed the revslider. This issue seemed to be related to my robots.txt file. I got rid of *user-agent – Disallow: /wp-content/plugins/ and the error has disappeared. My concern is that this plugin is not updated on a regular basis and updating it is not recommended with X-Theme. With WP it is known that plugins that have not been updated make your website easier to hack into. I can’t recommend that my client purchase a license with revslider because they can’t update it anyway and revslider doesn’t provide support unless you have purchased a license. It’s difficult to find a solution to this because of the above. I’ve thought about adding additional user-agent lines to allow googlebot and bingbot to crawl while blocking out all other useragents. My question is – what do you recommend for this issue?

JackKeymasterHi there @JaneyG,
Thanks for writing in!
With regards to the robots.txt was that coded added to the robots.txt file just for the purpose of not indexing the wp-content/plugins folder? If so, it sounds the server could be misconfigured anyway, as no wp-content, wp-admin etc folders should be indexed at all and it’s generally best practice to block access to these using rules in your .htaccess file.
If you remove that code from your robots.txt file are you getting the wp-content/plugins folder indexed? If you could confirm and we’d be happy to assist 🙂
On the subject of updating, any bundled plugins are updated when X is updated, if there is a critical security issue in any bundled plugins, we’d always push out a release straight away, the same day the plugin gets updated.
Thank you!

JaneyGParticipantHi,
It does appear to be a default setting. I will definitely find out what is happening on the server end. Additional code has been added to the .htaccess file to block anyone from seeing the directory listing and seeing any possible plugin vulnerabilities. Great advice! Thank you!
