Hey support,
I have a few questions about customizing Category archive pages:
1. By default, URL’s display category archives as sitename.com/category/this-is-my-category. I want the URL to just display as sitename.com/this-is-my-category without the /category/ inside. What is best practice for doing this? I have read to go to WordPress Settings > Permalinks and insert a period in the ‘Category Base’ field. However, when I do this, it makes the category page 404 instead.
2. I want to completely customize the look of my category archives. I want to be able to add additional headlines, text fields, images, etc. so that each category archive has a custom, unique look. With Posts and Pages, I can just use Cornerstone – but with Category archive pages, I don’t believe this is possible, is it? What is best practice for customizing the look and layout of archive pages?
3. With Portfolio archive pages, there is the ability to sort results based on tags. For example, see this demo: http://demo.theme.co/integrity-1/portfolio/. Is this unique to Portfolio archives specifically, or can I have the same sorting functionality for Category archives as well?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for writing in!
#1] There is no option in X that you can remove or edit the permalink to have a custom one. Perhaps you can check out these links:
https://jonnyjordan.com/blog/how-to-remove-category-from-your-urls-in-wordpress/Or use a 3rd party plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/remove-category-url/
#2] Please know that Cornerstone is a page builder. You can use this to create a page or a post. Archive pages cannot be edited in Cornerstone because these archive pages will have a dynamic contents and have been using template in displaying the items. For customizing these pages, please check out these threads: https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/customize-archive-page-smaller-thumbnails-change-layout-etc/, https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/how-to-change-the-layout-for-the-archive-and-blog-pages/, https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/customize-the-category-archive-pages/
#3] Portfolio page is using a page template and the sort feature is a part of the page template. The sort filter is necessary because the portfolio will display items with different categories. You will notice that the filter contains all the category names assigned to all the post items. The category archive page on the other hand will display all the post items with the same category name. I am not sure which filter should be used on this page. In short, a sort filter in a category page may not be possible.
Thank you.
