Hi there,
We are having trouble assigning a parent portfolio page to portfolio items. Pages that are attributed to the portfolio layout are not coming up as selectable options in the field to assign a parent portfolio within the individual portfolio item. For example, please see what should be the parent portfolio page http://104.131.68.17/programs/gallery/ for portfolio item: http://104.131.68.17/portfolio-item/public-artist-talktugboat-printshop1130a-thurs-march-19-2015/ (note bread crumbs – the page is still pointing to ‘faculty’ which is our other page setup as a portfolio layout).
How do we correct this? Thanks in advance,
March 16, 2015 at 1:53 pm #228512Hi Jake,
I just tested the following scenario on my localhost and it’s working fine. You must have not assigned the Portfolio Parent to the items for their categorization. You can do this by editing any portfolio item, scroll down to Portfolio Item Settgins > Portfolio Parent and select your portfolio parent. That should be displayed correctly in your breadcrumbs.
Let us know how this goes!
March 16, 2015 at 2:11 pm #228521Hi there,
Thanks for writing in! Please ensure that your pages are set to layout portfolio. you may also want to follow this thread:

Hope this helps – thanks!
March 16, 2015 at 2:24 pm #228528I can assure you that both of those things have been done. The option was there, and was set correctly / working fine, and now, after modifying some of the css to hide the featured image in portfolio items, the parent portfolio selector does not display ‘gallery’ as an option. The layout for the gallery page is assigned correctly. What else might be the issue?
March 16, 2015 at 2:31 pm #228532Just for reference, we implemented step #2 from this thread: https://theme.co/x/member/forums/topic/customizing-the-layout-of-a-my-portfolio-item-page/ and also used this code to hide the feature image:
/** HIDE FEATURED IMAGE ON PORTFOLIO ITEM **/.single-x-portfolio .entry-featured {
display: none;
}March 16, 2015 at 8:37 pm #228773Hello There,
Thanks for the heads up!
With ‘Portfolio Parent’ option, you can assign the parent portfolio page for the portfolio item. This will be used in various places throughout the theme such as your breadcrumbs. If “Default” is selected then the first page with the “Layout – Portfolio” template assigned to it will be used.
Now in your case, you only have one portfolio parent which is the Faculty page. Although the ‘Program’ page is the parent page of your Gallery, it will still display the ‘Faculty’ because that is the only Portfolio Page.
Hope this helps.
March 17, 2015 at 5:47 am #229049So you mean because gallery has a parent page, it cannot serve as a portfolio parent page?
March 17, 2015 at 9:53 am #229220Hi Jake,
Yes, if your portfolio page is a child of another page, it won’t appear under the “Portfolio Parent” dropdown.
March 17, 2015 at 10:57 am #229272OK – Thank you for the clarification! I might suggest that this be added to possible future updates – it would be beneficial to us if we could have child pages as parent portfolio pages.
Thanks for your help regardless,
