#1 I set up a portfolio testing page on raeredmond.com/recipes using the ethos child theme. When I set the media type to “gallery,” the featured image area is blank, but if I have it set to image or video the featured image will appear. I tried it with the renew child theme, and it does the same thing except you can see a skinny, blank rectangular where the gallery should be
I’ve removed all of my custom css, deactivated third party plugins, removed anything I added to my functions.php, and cleared my cache and nothing seemed to work. I have reactivated everything since. Any insight as to why the gallery media type isn’t working in portfolio?
#2 With ethos child theme, if I set it to gallery media type, why does it not have the option to set the featured content to “media?”
March 2, 2015 at 5:34 am #218301Hi there,
#1 Gallery media type used when you want to create a gallery, So the featured image won’t appear for this option.
#2 Please provide us with login credential in private replay.
Thanks.
March 2, 2015 at 9:37 am #218476I was using the gallery media type because I set up a gallery, and it is not appearing within the portfolio item. I set a featured image because I don’t have the option to use “media” in the featured content, so it appeared as just a black square in the portfolio if I didn’t choose a featured image.
I will leave my login credentials on another reply.

Thanks for the credentials!
On your portfolio item edit page, there are some jQuery conflicts (see: http://prntscr.com/6bvdmf). In regards to the portfolio gallery, couldn’t replicate the issue. For testing purpose, I’ve created a test portfolio item (URL: http://raeredmond.com/portfolio-item/test-portfolio-item/) by selecting media type as Gallery and uploaded some placeholder images and set a featured image to it (see: http://prntscr.com/6bvhnr). On the single portfolio page, it’s show the slider correctly and on the main portfolio page, the featured image is appearing (see: http://prntscr.com/6bvgk9). Would you mind confirming the issue again?
Thank you.
March 2, 2015 at 2:41 pm #218688I was able to figure out how make the gallery appear, thank you! But I am still having trouble figuring out how to change the featured content between “thumbnail” and “media” in the ethos stack. If I switch my child theme to renew, I have the option to choose in the portfolio item settings. Is this just not available for ethos?
March 2, 2015 at 3:02 pm #218711Actually I am still having trouble with the gallery. So I also made a test post at http://raeredmond.com/uncategorized/test-post/ I added images from my media library into the content of the post, then I chose “gallery” as the post type. Am I not doing it right?
A gallery only appears for me if I upload new images from my computer, but if I choose images from my media library, the gallery slides will not appear in the post or if I do the same thing for a portfolio item.
March 2, 2015 at 3:17 pm #218720I followed these steps to create a gallery from a previous forum post https://theme.co/x/member/forums/topic/project-porfolio/#post-115127:
“Simply create a Portfolio item, Then add all the images you want to appear on the thumbnail as gallery using “Add Media” on the top left of the Page editor.
After that, browse down the page editor, you’ll see “Media Type” Check “Gallery” then “Featured Content” Check “Media”.
The most important thing is to attach the images you want to appear on that portfolio item by adding the image on page editor using Media Attachment.”
Is there a difference between inserting an image through “add media” vs using media attachment? If so, what and where is media attachment? Am I missing something here
March 3, 2015 at 1:06 am #218981Hi there,
You should add new images to create a gallery as it said in documentation.
Please do not use images which already added to your media.Thanks.
March 3, 2015 at 1:11 am #218983Hi Raechelle,
For the gallery type item to work you need to upload your images as post attachment.
You can do it by clicking on add media while you are on post edit page.http://screencast.com/t/IY4oZ6miRB6r
No need to insert your images into post, the theme will automatically detect the images you added as attachement and will display it as an image slider.
Hope that make sense.
Thanks
