AlexParticipantHello,
I’ve got a writer’s blog and wanted to leverage your Portfolio feature to showcase my books. I think it would be great to show their covers in a grid with a special plugin you offer (Grid?).
But I don’t know how it works, so I have a couple of questions:
1. Can I control what info I show next to cover in a grid?
2. Can I control the appearance of a page where user goes after they clicked on the cover? I’d like to create a landing page for each of the book/portfolio item.
3. On the landing page, I’d like to give away some chapters for free. So I need to create a couple pages with a novel’s text. And can I somehow link those pages to the portfolio item or landing page I described above? Or don’t they need to be linked? Maybe I can just copy and paste links to those pages, but they’re not linked with a portfolio item in other ways?
Maybe you have some other ideas and tips for me how it’s better to showcase books on writer’s site built with your theme?
Anyway, thank you!

AlexParticipantOh, I forgot to add that my site is in 2 languages, Russian and English. So I need to have my portfolio items in two languages too. And Portfolio index page as well. I use WPML plugin.
My site is here:
Is it possible?
Thanks.

LelyModeratorHello Alex,
Thanks for posting in.
1.) Yes. This will depend on the Skin you have chosen. Depending if you are on Masonry or Grid layout, available skins will be different. Please check the documentation here:http://theme-one.com/docs/the-grid/#!/skin_settings
2.) This will be depending on the post. The GRID can display the default post and other custom post types. For example, for default post the link will go to SINGLE POST PAGE in which you have total control on how you want it appear/display and the content you want to have. Same with portfolio.
3.) If you choose portfolio, the link will go to single portfolio page. Then the content of those single portfolio will depend on how you built it. You have total control for that page like single post page. The role of the grid is just a default display list of all those post types.
The GRID is a good option. You can also check the default portfolio style for each stack as option 2.
WPML has duplicate feature, above the publish button section. It will duplicate the current page to another language. Then manually edit the content and translate them
Hope this helps.

AlexParticipantHello,
One more thing. I’m setting up my Portfolio (named Shelf cause I’m a writer, you see;) and I come up with a question: Does Grid plugin uses Portfolio page and items? Or does it creates some other items?
I thought Grid is just like cosmetics, to show off your posts in a nice masonry. But then I thought maybe it’s like a separate functionality and need to have other items.
The problem that I can see here is that: my readers will leave comments on my portfolio items now (they are short stories) and then I maybe will have to create separate pages for Grid plugin when I’m ready to use it.
Please clarify this one.
Thanks!

AlexParticipantOne more question.
I created a sample portfolio item here:
http://playingwriter.com/ru/portfolio-item/aprelskaya-koldunya-rej-bredberi/
But I have a couple problems:
1. There’s a sidebar that I don’t need:
2. And then there’s no Disqus comments on the page though in the blog posts they work fine.
Thanks.

RadModeratorHi Alex,
The grid or essential grid have many options you can use. They can pick existing items like portfolio and display it. While on Essential grid, you can just manually add images for the gallery. It really depends on what you wish to achieve. Checking their documentation will help you a lot 🙂
1. Please add this CSS to Admin > Appearance > Customizer > Custom > CSS.
.x-portfolio .entry-extra { display: none; } .x-portfolio .entry-info { float: none; width: 100%; }2. I can see the Disqus comment section, please check the attached screenshot.
Cheers!
