Hi! I’m relatively new to WordPress so apologies in advance if I’m missing something rudimentary. I tried setting up One Page Navigation following your instructions from the Knowledge Base, but can’t make it working. I do have both WP and X updated to newest versions. The website is in building stage but published – http://www.rusinskyjazyk.sk.
I’ve set up a menu for this which is made up of links to existing pages. I’ve also activated One Page Navigation in individual Page Settings by selecting the menu I’d created for the purpose.
My gut is telling me I must be something very important, but I can’t tell what that is. I’ve read through a number of forum threads but didn’t find an answer either.
If you can look into this for me, I’ll appreciate it super high. Your theme is awesome and I’m trying to get my agency to start using it for clients.
Thanks heaps,
BrankoMay 2, 2014 at 2:32 pm #39864Hi Branko,
Thank you for writing in!
As by checking your site, it doesn’t need a one page navigation because it is linking to other pages.
If you’re going to use one page navigation, you have to make all content available on same page. And each section is group by content band.
Then, you must create a special menu for one page navigation. Each menu item represent the content, thus the link should be like #x-content-band-1, #x-content-band-2, and etc..
It should not use full url as menu link.
Hope this helps.
May 2, 2014 at 3:54 pm #39900Hi and thanks a lot for the reply! It sure does help.
Now to understand this 100%, I have a couple related questions for you.
Your One Page Navigation tutorial mentions: “Finally, you can still add normal links to your one page navigation if you’d like, as well as dropdowns.” But you’re saying my menu should not use full url as menu link. Can you clarify?
In other words, is there a way to make one page navigation out of existing pages? I imagine putting everything on one page from a set of them will be a bit of a task. The tutorial also says that “the easiest and best IDs to link to on your page are the ones automatically generated by our [content_band] shortcode (this is the same as adding a Row in Visual Composer).” I see no #IDs in my markup though, does that mean that adding a Row in Visual Composer does NOT create them?
Thanks again, your theme rocks and your member base triple rocks.
BrankoMay 2, 2014 at 9:36 pm #40032Hi!
Thank you for the update.
You can still use normal links when you’re using the one page navigation but you have to make sure that you’re using the absolute url plus the ID of the section. For example, instead of #x-contend-band-1, you need to use http://www.mysite.com/#x-contend-band-1. Regarding the ID, you need to insert at least 2 content band elements in order to see the content band id that is generated by the shortcode.
Cheers!
May 3, 2014 at 8:58 am #40117Hi, thanks again!
Does this affect your SEO though?
May 3, 2014 at 7:33 pm #40220You’re welcome Branko. No, that won’t affect your SEO.
May 19, 2014 at 11:39 pm #46246Hi and thanks for your past replies.
I’m still having a hard time and can’t make one page navigation work. I feel like if made everything into one page, I’d made it work just by following the instructions. When I set up a one page navigation menu that includes multiple pages, nothing works or makes sense.
I need to include a menu item that is an empty category header, too, and a blog page. The site I’m talking about is http://www.rusinskyjazyk.sk.
I’ve tried using both the ID tags populated automatically by adding rows in visual composer, and ID tags I set myself through shortcodes.
I honestly don’t know what else to try and I would not like to remake the site into one page. Also, I’d love to understand this functionality well and be able to use it on other sites.
I’ll be happy to provide you with more info or create a WordPress login for you if you like.
Thanks heaps, I can’t wait to get unstuck,
BrankoMay 20, 2014 at 7:16 am #46399Hi Branko,
I think your problem is getting the concept of One Page Navigation. A One Page Navigation page is just a single page with a very long content, and each content is separated and organized by sections, these sections are your content bands. When you create each section or content band, an ID is automatically generated by the theme for you (example: #x-content-band-1, #x-content-band-2, and so on) and is sorted according to creation. Since your page would end up very long, your users would need a shortcut so they won’t need to scroll and search for the sections they want to read. That’s where the menu goes in, and since you will just be linking to a section on the page, the specific content band per se, you only need its ID as a URL on the menu (example: #x-content-band-1, #x-content-band-2, etc.). This won’t work if you link an ID that is on a different page since the page will direct you to that page thus defeating the purpose of of One Page Navigation.

Thanks!
May 20, 2014 at 2:08 pm #46536You’re right, I did have a problem with understanding the concept, hoping to be able to set up separate pages and then have them pulled into one page through one page navigation set-up.
I got confused here: “This works really great if you’re wanting to split test two different homepage designs with different amounts of content on the page, but you want both of them to have a link out to your blog page as well.”
I couldn’t quite imagine how that all works until I had it set up correctly.
Thanks heaps once again for the great support, today I got my co-workers at the agency to use X on a client website for the first time.

June 16, 2015 at 2:48 pm #303946I am having trouble with one page navigation using Cornerstone. I have created a page with 4 different sections in Cornerstone. Each section I have given a unique ID. So for example, one section is called Services, and the ID is #services. Then I created custom menu items for each of the 4 sections of the page. The 4 sections are home at the top, and then about, our work, and services. When I created a menu item, in the link area, I deleted the http:// and typed in #x-section-about for example. So then the bottom section for services was #x-section-services. I have one page navigation turned on in the page settings, and I have chosen the menu I created. When I go to view the page, the menu items are at the top of the page where they should be. And I can scroll down the page so the parallax feature is working on all of the sections. But when I click on the menu items, they do not take me anywhere. I feel like this should be very simple, but I have spent hours with no luck. Any help you could give me would be great. I wish there was a short video tutorial for setting up a one page nav using cornerstone. Thanks.
