EricParticipantHey I received an email saying that Chrome (version 56 and later) will be marking pages that collect passwords or credit card details as “Not Secure” unless the pages are served over HTTPS. The reason I got this warning is because I have an input field for a password on my portfolio items pages, which allows people to enter a password to download some sample pages (I used a plugin called ‘simple download monitor’ to achieve that). I noticed since getting the warning that my website is not being marked as “Not Secure”, and I was just wondering if it’s necessary to take action on this, and if so, is there’s an easier option than changing the entire website to https?
I’m not sure what the implications are but I just want to make sure this won’t cause any issues with my website. So if you could let me know that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Rue NelModeratorHello There,
Thanks for writing in! I would highly recommend that you us SSL for your site. Please check out this article:

EricParticipantHey thanks for the reply. Just out of curiosity what are the implications if I were to leave it as ‘not secure’? I don’t want to purchase SSL and change my website to https, so if it’s important I’ll definitely try the 3rd party plugins. However I just want to make sure I’m not wasting my time.
Let me know. Thanks!

RupokMemberHi Eric,
Google is forcing SSL so the Chrome is. So you should use SSL at least the free SSL for Let’s Encrypt. It won’t be a good experience if your user see such warning.
Cheers!
