Hi,
I am using X v4.6.4 and have modified the parent with cornerstone and the customizer. I realize I should have started with a child theme but I did not. How can I create a child theme from my existing modified X parent theme and continue my editing with the child theme?
Thanks.March 26, 2017 at 10:17 am #1420689Hi there,
You can follow the Child Theme and download the Child Theme. You mentioned you edited with Cornerstone and Customizer which should not cause any issue if you have not touched the theme files directly. Just install Child Theme and continue editing if needed.
Cheers!
March 26, 2017 at 4:17 pm #1420887I haven’t touched the theme files directly as far as I know, but I have made a number of custom css entries in cornerstone. Will I still be able to install the child theme download and continue editing without losing what I have already changed? If not is there a better way to create a child theme from what I have done so far?

In that case, then there should be no problem. Cornerstone CSS aren’t related to child theme since it doesn’t belong to template files. But you should backup and list tour menu and widgets setup first, switching to child theme could reset menu and widgets. They will not be deleted, you just need to re-assign your menu and widgets back.
Thanks!
March 27, 2017 at 9:25 am #1421697Hi,
I am not sure what you mean by “list tour menu and widgets setup”. Can you please clarify how I would do that?
Thanks.March 27, 2017 at 11:10 am #1421828Sorry for the typo. It should be “list your menu and widgets”. That means you should take a note of your widgets and menus as they might be reset. If that happens, you need to set them up again.
Thanks.
