Admittedly, there may be a way to do this but I’m at a loss. I appreciate any help here. This is particularly for mobile/touch devices. Dropdown menus are fairly intuitive on desktop screens with a mouse. On touch devices, they have to make sure they click the arrow or it’s a no-go. My solution up to this point is to turn that top tier into a link back to the homepage. I can remove the link from the top tier, but some people struggle with that as well. They don’t know what to do if nothing happens when they tap the word. I can create a catch-all page which essentially functions as a drop-down menu, but honestly, that seems like a waste of space to me.

Is there a way, to make the top tier menu label function as the drop-down arrow icon for submenus? Meaning, you tap the word and the menu drops down. The small arrow is a great indicator of a dropdown menu, but my visitors typically click the word first before the arrow. I would just like to make visitor’s experience as intuitive as possible so they don’t get frustrated.

This would be a check box feature in Customizer.

    Hi Sam,

Thanks for writing in! As you know you might have link for the top tier (that has children) or you might not have link. So it would be really contradictory if it opens the submenu by default, right? If you don’t want to use the top tier items as link then you can use # as link and add some CSS so that it opens the submenu. Let’s provide your URL and I’ll try to tailor some code to do that.

    Cheers!

    Hi Rupok,
Thanks for your help. Maybe I’m over thinking this.

    Hey Sam,

I’d like to check but your site seems down – http://prntscr.com/e8hul8

Make sure it’s up and running and update us.

    Cheers!
