Hello,

I am trying to build a new website and have just tried to install X on the wordpress theme uploader but it says this:

“Installing Theme from uploaded file: themeforest-5871901-x-the-theme.zip
Unpacking the package…

Installing the theme…

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

Theme install failed.”

Could you let me know how to fix this please?

Thanks for writing in!
I’m sorry to hear that you’re having this issue.

X theme comes with a style.css file included. This may be an issue of corrupted/in-complete download.
Kindly re-download the file from themeforest and try again.

If that doesn’t work, would you mind providing us with login credentials so we can take a closer look? To do this, you can make a post with the following info:

– Link to your site
– WordPress Admin username / password
– FTP credentials

Don’t forget to select Set as private reply. This ensures your information is only visible to our staff.

Hi Barry,

Clicking on wp-admin still requires me to login to wordpress.

You can try installing the theme manually using ftp.

1. Go to your Downloads page in your ThemeForest profile.

2. Locate the Download button next to X and click it. Upon clicking the Download button, a dropdown should appear.

3. Select All files & documentation from the dropdown to begin downloading a .zip file containing X within.

4. Once you have downloaded this .zip file to your computer, uncompress it by double-clicking on it. This will reveal an unzipped version of a folder that contains documentation, demo content, photoshop files, and the X theme itself.

5. Locate the unzipped version of X within this package folder.

6. Connect to your server via FTP(using filezilla) and navigate to your /wp-content/themes/ directory.

7. Drag and drop the uncompressed version of X into this directory.

No it’s not a problem of X theme rather you are uploading the wrong file. It seems you are trying to upload the full package of theme that contains the theme and other files. Please upload the installable WordPress theme only to get it done correctly. If you can’t determine the installable theme folder or zip file, you can download the installable theme from themeforest or here – https://community.theme.co/dashboard/

You can also place the extracted theme folder under wp-content/themes/ folder using FTP.

I am having this same issue with the missing style.css stylesheet. I have downloaded the zip file many times and get the same result. This should not be so difficult and I am almost ready to ask for a refund. I have purchased several other themes for other websites and never experience this hassle. What do you guys have to say for yourselves after this issue appears to be a favorite topic of complaint? This issue should have been fixed a LONG time ago.

Or is this another way of getting us to pay $50 for installation?

Follow Up on Prior Message. I went to the trouble of down loading the x theme per you FTP instructions. Still doesn’t work. Here’s the error message received—

Broken Themes

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.
