MaartenParticipantHi there,
I have buttons with a mailto link. The work fine on mobile devices and on some desktops…but sometimes they lead to a blank page (see screenshots).
1 Why does this happen and is it fixable that it never happens? Or does it depend on the setting of every computer how and which program has the right to handle mailto links?
2 IF this happens can I change the reaction?
2A for example redirect to a page where I explain that the link is not picked up by an email client and that they can send an email to my address?
2B a different solutionIf I cannot change the reaction I will have to find a workaround with a mailchimp form or something else…
Please advice since the working of this button has to be waterproof 🙂
Thanks already

ChristopherModeratorHi there,
Please edit the button and disable ‘open link in new window’ option.
No, you can’t add content to new window since it links to mailto, you can only prevent the link from opening in a new windowHope it helps.

MaartenParticipantHi Christopher,
I have changed it but now “nothing” happens. I do see a short moment where the page is active but on the screen nothing changes and no mail account is opened in another app.
It might be a permission problem with apps opening other apps or something…
Do you have any other idea or suggestion?
…you guys are sort of my wizard of Oz when it comes to the art of software:)
Thanks already

NicoModeratorHi There,
Upon checking your setup, clicking the button opens my outlook to send email from the email you set. In short, it is working well. Check attached.
This could be a problem on your local setup. Please try other computer setup that opens mailto so you could verify that your setup is not working well.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks.

MaartenParticipantI agree that probably it is a setting on my desktop. Probably no program has been set as default to open mailto links and therefore no program is opened…
The downside is that IF I have this problem…other people also might have this problem…and I dont want to loose a prospect because their desktop has a similar setup…
If there is no way to “catch” this “error” into a fail safe backup plan…then I might change the button into a mailchimp form or add my emailaddress in the text as well.
Thanks

RadModeratorHi there,
There is no other way, it can’t be controlled. Links are only limited to the browser and it can’t access or change any device setting.
Thanks!

MaartenParticipantOk Thanks for your reply!
I will find the best suitable workaround to catch these kind of issues!
