As said in the previous reply:
you can’t add textdomain declaration within gettext filter
That means it could not be tracked by WPML out of the box. It might be technically possible but would require additional custom development which is outside the scope of our support. You might want to contact our trusted partners who caters X setup and customization needs. Please see https://community.theme.co/custom-development/

Would it work if I manually added the new string (from the filter) and its translation in a pot file?

Thanks for updating in. You cannot simply manually add any string into the pot file. You will have to update it so that it will have the record of the file and line number as the location of the string. I would recommend that you check out this link:
