Larry KParticipantHi, my request is very specific and has specific goals… that EVERY X user should care about… SPEED. As in having the fastest WP site possible.
Now, I know and have read and implemented various performance tasks/items on the “performance” section: https://community.theme.co/kb/performance/
While that is good information (minus the use of W3TC due to crashing sites)…
= note: would appreciate any updates for running nginx 🙂I’m talking about adding a “performance” section/area on X that controls these items:
– google fonts (turn off/on)
— or have a choice of which fonts to use (radio button)
– emojis (turn off/on)
– * any way to deal with ‘external scripts’… to combine them? (turn off/on)
– * any way to make sure all async items start at same time? (turn off/on)
– have a simple way to add external scripts (before page, after body opens, end of body page, after ending html)* I’m assuming these items can’t be put into a toggle switch?
Here is a concept: Render vs Load
https://www.stevesouders.com/blog/2013/05/13/moving-beyond-window-onload/Why am I bring this up… speed?
If you don’t already know — Google Loves Speed. If you make money with your X themed website, you NEED to make your website as fast as possible. We already know X is a very simple, easy and very powerful theme (that is why we are here)…
I’m asking X to do what appears to be very easy ** be able to turn off emojis for example **
and to really think about how X could be faster. Obviously, other ideas to implement are not easy, take time, etc.NOTE: I’ve seen articles, on “case studies examples” in that NO other changes done to the website EXCEPT make it 10% – 20% faster… the site had improved ranking/traffic/etc.
Logically that makes sense! But technically, google loves speed and rewards its.AND I really, really dislike adding some “3rd party plugin”, which only does 1 thing I need… because:
— I’m having trouble figuring it out on my own, or
— I can’t trust this 3rd party plugin, or
— I just need it to be simple and easy, which if I did it… it would be too hard.Last thing…
X is rocking! You are doing a fantastic job and can’t wait for the versions.
Speed has always been important, but in the last several weeks/months… it has been proven to make a BIG difference. As I work on making my sites faster, I realize some things are super simple/easy config or setting thing— which if there was a toggle switch, it would make X faster with a push button…
and that was the point of this post 🙂thanks

Larry KParticipantthanks!
so when can we expect the new features? tomorrow?
🙂 he ehe he he!!!so a selling point and one more thought…
1) with some new features, X could add a tagline of “X Theme, the fastest WP theme on the market”…
or really, you get my point.
2) have a specific section solely based on website performance, such as: EASY, SIMPLE items that
you can turn on or turn off, based on your needs… either way, items that can be easily measured or at least
see that the switch does something.
3) now, not all speed increasing items are a simple toggle, but you get my point.the MAIN reason being… i’m sure in the next 6 months or so… there will be WP themes that come out promoting they are “fast”… it will be a selling point.
I’ve seen discussions of people switching from one theme to another SOLELY because of speed. some are faster and some are bloated or not designed well.
I know X has taken some care in creating a fast theme… but from what I can tell… other items could be done as well AND/OR more time & energy could be spent making it even faster, etc.
I’m in the “camp” that says even a 10% increase in page speed load/render is VERY WELL worth it!
thanks for listening

Larry KParticipantwell… one more thought… since you asked 🙂
I know caching is a BIG item when it comes to speed. X has been more about design, than anything else?
It would not make sense for X to focus on caching, etc. However, if X wanted to go on the idea of creating the fastest WP theme ever 🙂
My thought would be to partner with or buy out an existing cache plugin AND THEN
integrate it within X.Where it is more of a “done for you” caching button.
AND the integration is done somehow that improves it MORE than if you added the 2 (X and whatever plugin)
separately.thanks!
let me know if you want more ideas 🙂January 28, 2017 at 1:22 pm #1349008
RadModeratorHi there,
I’m not sure when, or if they can be implemented but I forwarded that as well 🙂
Thanks.

Larry KParticipantany update on if X has or is thinking anything related to:
– X becoming lighter, less code, more efficient code, more optimized, more clean, more streamlined, etc. etc. etc.
– do any thing to improve the “out of box” page load time
I know there are LOTS and lots of variables and users will do their fair share of bogging down X and WP (withing thinking).
BUT I know that a nimble, ultra fast, small footprint, ultra clean code structure is very beneficial…in that (if by default) a simple X page loads faster than MANY other WP themes and sites… google will love X even more!
🙂
anyway, just wanted to voice my opinion about speed (again)thanks!
PS. If X were able to say and prove it, that X is the fastest loading WP theme … it would open up the market to a whole new type of customer… as mobile is taking over, anything to help speed up a website is VERY important.
Think of AMP…. its simple. its fast. its in demand.March 9, 2017 at 2:24 am #1400262
