hi guys
First off doing a great job !!
I have a question on images for my site. My homepage is about 6.6 MB in size which is very large and i am near sure it is cause all my images look to be full size (even though as you can see they are not showing full size until you go into a post).
Is there something i should be doing or can do to reduce this size of my homepage (note i have already used WP shrink and ewww).

April 14, 2016 at 3:22 am #881736Thanks for the link but i have that all setup already – that is more so a workaround to the issue (caching, image compression etc) but my homepage is very large to start off with which i think it the issue.
For example the images up the top of my page (in the ethos carousel) look to be downloading as full size images when i am wondering should they not be downloading as thumbnails for example ? (the carousel shows images way smaller than full size so not sure whey it needs to download full size).
April 14, 2016 at 8:18 am #882189Hi,
Yes, it is set to pull the full size image because that is the best options for all settings.
Some users sets the carousel to 1 or 2 posts and if we pull a small image it becomes blurry.

It could be possible with custom development, but this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. You may wish to consult a developer to assist you with this. X is quite extensible with child themes, so there are plenty of possibilities. Thanks for understanding. Take care!
April 15, 2016 at 6:19 am #884121Hi,
I don’t think you fully understand my question so here is an example. If you look at my site the page is about 6.6MB but if you look at the ethos demo blog (which has similar amount of images etc) it is only 2.2MB. (http://theme.co/x/demo/ethos/1/)
This make me think i am inserting pictures incorrectly otherwise how is the demo page a third the size with the same amount of content ?
April 15, 2016 at 7:18 pm #885033Hi there,
Your current image size is around 700px and 900px, that is an ideal size for targeting multiple devices. Devices range from smallest mobile and biggest retina resolution.
If you’re going to optimize your image to a specific device like mobiles, then expect that it quality will drop for bigger devices. If you prefer that way, then please upload smaller images.
Though yes, 6mb is mostly contributed by multiple images, you can install this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/ or any related plugin and smush your images.
Our demo uses image around 1200px (http://theme.co/x/demo/ethos/1/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/05/jacket.jpg) but filesize is small (190kb), while your images are just 700-800px but filesize are around 500kb-800kb. Unfortunately, the theme has no built-in feature to optimize it. It’s more related to 3rd party plugin or desktop software thus smush your images without changing the resolution.
Thanks!
