Under all my post headings there are big line breaks and I can’t seem to change them within the wordpress editor.

Thanks for writing in! I am not sure which line break you are referring as I can’t see any big line breaks there. Would you please clarify it a bit with a screenshot and point us the space?

Above each heading there is an additional line break, and I can’t find a way to switch it off.

ie the gap between the paragraph and the heading is large, compared to the gap between paragraphs.

Try adding following CSS under Customizer > Custom > CSS:

.single-post .entry-content.content h1,
.single-post .entry-content.content h2,
.single-post .entry-content.content h3,
.single-post .entry-content.content h4,
.single-post .entry-content.content h5,
.single-post .entry-content.content h6 {
    margin-top: 0;
}
