So is there any reason why the favicon option in the customizer doesn’t just provide a button to select an image from the media library directly (like for the other image options lower down the same panel)? That way we could just open Media Library directly, upload a new image if necessary, select the image we want to use and then insert the link in a single step? Surely that would reduce a lot of confusion??

That is because the .ico file format does not have a preview (see attachment).

    Thanks.

Hi, the path to my favicon doesnt seem to work, I have an existing favicon in place but the path that I am using (uploaded via media menu in wordpress – and then copied the file location URL does not seem to link to the favicon that has been created) is there any way to use the default customize functionality that ships with WordPress?

    Thanks
    Ev

    Hello Ev,

Can you clarify what you meant by default customize functionality that ships with WordPress? Would you mind opening a new thread and then share us your login credentials so we can take a closer look? To do this, you can make a post with the following info:

    – Link to your site
    – WordPress Admin username / password
    – Link to new ico file.

Don’t forget to select Set as private reply. This ensures your information is only visible to our staff.

    Hi All,

I found a solution that worked for me and didnt break my x installation (in x remove any path instructions as we will be venturing into another theme to do this thing) -pick and activate another theme (this does de activate X so be warned – all my data remained but I dont know if other themes might over write some of X themes awesomeness), something like ‘twenty sixteen’, customise – site identity, select your 512×512 png , save and then go back to x theme. the PNG gets turned into your favicon.

PS if this breaks your install then sorry, Themeco, this – was easier than having to give you access details to my site – so sorry.

But… if its easier for people to not use your theme to do something this simple, then it might be time to review your theme design in relation to this one thing, that has been mentioned many many many times.

    Regards

    Hi There,

Thanks for sharing your solution. But we can not replicate the issue on our end, Customizer’s > Site Icons works fine on our end. Did you try clearing your browser’s cache or using different browser when you preview the site? Sometimes browser’s cache is very persistent with favicons.

    Thanks.

hey, is your way easier than the default way? like is it easier than selecting a PNG from the media library?
I ask only because I coulndt get it to work, I would have liked to, but couldn’t.
Deactivating X theme, then activating another theme and selecting a PNG fixed it. – I love X theme, so I came back to it, the favicon has remained.

Your “find an app and create an ICO file from a PNG, then save it, then upload the ICO, have no option to preview it (because ico files dont allow a preview), then go into your media lib find the path – copy it, exit, go back to site icons, paste path, then save, then refresh and hope for the best. – possibly clear site cache if it didnt work” -just didnt seem as user friendly.

I understand that you are able to get it working, but are the steps I have outlined above the correct ones – or is there a “select PNG” option that I missed?

    Hi there,

I am not sure which OS you are using but ICO file could be previewed. However if you read the info above, you will understand it – http://prntscr.com/buoz9o

“When setting the path to your favicon, make sure you are using the “.ico” format. “

    Cheers!

Thanks, as I said, I have fixed the problem by deactivating X theme, using a different free theme and updating the Favicon from a PNG within that theme – easy – then re activating X theme.

    I appreciate your time.

I hope our feedback is taken on boad as the theme is awesome – and this one hick-up pulls the user away from that awesomeness.

    Regards
