    I would like my header to be a little deeper and to remove the gray box under it that has a house image.

    Hello Kimberly,

    Thanks for posting in and giving us screenshot.
    That space is set for Breadcrumbs. We can set this to OFF on Appearance > Customize > Header > Breadcrumbs: OFF.

    Hope this helps.
