Some blog posts that I have require a sidebar, but I need some of them to be full width.
How can I create one full width post, when all others have sidebar?December 27, 2013 at 12:01 am #2684Hey J,
At this time we do not support multiple post templates in the way that you are describing. In fact, WordPress doesn’t even support this out of the box, which is why plugins like this one exist. This is something that we might be able to investigate for a future release of X, but at this time, you will need to utilize a plugin similar to the one above and implement it in custom manner via a child theme.
Thanks!
December 27, 2013 at 12:08 am #2685This is a major fail on your side.
I guess X is NOT going to be the LAST theme I buy. Shame, cause at $60, I would really expect something more.
And your excuse that even wordpress doesnt support it is pretty lame. I mean, THAT is why I pay you $60 instead of using the free wordpress themes.
If you want your theme to succeed, I would not be “investigating” it, as you put it, I would be IMPLEMENTING it ASAP.
2* from me…December 27, 2013 at 1:07 am #2687J – Your condescending, self-entitled tone aside, I think the Themeco team here has gone out of their way to support the development of X above and beyond.
However, I think I can help out in this case. Take a look at THIS, as I think it might be right up your alley.
December 27, 2013 at 1:09 am #2688Hi J,
My apologies if I said something to upset you, it was not my intention. We regularly help users achieve certain functionalities like this, however in this instance, it’s something that would be quickest and easiest to achieve via a plugin as we can’t just provide a code snippet or post template due to the way WordPress is setup.
We truly value our customers’ feedback and want to work with our users to develop a better theme experience for all. I can assure you that every request we have received from customers is written out for us to discuss about including on our development timeline. While we can’t build in every feature (some are too niche, et cetera), we absolutely discuss every possibility, and if it is something that will ultimately benefit our end users, we work to include it as quickly as possible.
As a matter of fact, I’m fairly confident this is something we could include in the next release of our theme, which is scheduled to go out tomorrow, or Saturday by the latest. Again, it’s not that it’s a complicated feature to implement it’s just not something we can quickly say do this (aside from recommending the plugin we did – which is a solution we ourselves have used int the past for achieving this functionality on the fly).
We’d love to earn back your 5-star ratings as that is a big deal to us around here, and we strive to go above and beyond. We’d be happy to help walk you through setting it up with the plugin while we add this feature to the theme.
Looking forward to your response. Thanks!
December 27, 2013 at 1:40 am #2692Guys, if this J. Michael B character is speaking on your behalf, then you really should look for a wiser spokesperson, cause this one is NOT doing you ANY favors.
I liked your theme, but if it doesnt give me what I need than I have no use for it.
I’m a photographer, and an instructor. I have blog articles with tips on photography with a sidebar but my galleries are done in full width, to promote the photography.
I bought a few themes, and each one of them was lacking something.
Yours seemed perfect.
I honestly didnt even think to ask about a possibility of a variable type of posts, because that feature was included in practically every theme that I own, and i own a few. I thought this to be a core feature in any paid theme. If it is easy to implement then please do not hesitate with it. As it is now, it is not flexible enough to be called the “last theme we ever buy”…
I DO like that slogan tho…I DO want you guys to succeed, because that means you keep developing a theme that I invested my money in…
I’ll reverse the rating to 5, in hope that you get this implemented.December 27, 2013 at 1:51 am #2695J – Nope, I speak for myself.
December 27, 2013 at 2:17 am #2702Hi J,
Thanks for reaching back.
I appreciate your response and understanding where we are coming from. We have been customers too and know the feeling when you buy a product from a company that doesn’t care. We have made a concerted effort to NOT be that type of company, and while this doesn’t mean we can do everything perfectly, you can rest assured we are working tirelessly to truly make this the best theme on the market.
