Nearly all my blog posts have a video at the top and I’m presently setting them as post format = video, with the iframe embed code pasted into the video post settings section. I’m unable to find the following solution:

I want the featured image (and not the video, usually from Youtube, though sometimes Wistia) to show in the blog listing and archive listing pages, and then the video at the top of the single blog page (and hide the featured image).

I do this because there is important marketing content within the sidebars and body content of the blog post and I don’t want them to view the video without entering the single post.

Is there a way to do this?

Previously, I was using the standard post type and inserting the video at the top of the body text of the post. When I did this, the featured image did appear on the listing page, but then both the featured image and the video appeared at the top of the single post page, the shape of the video was distorted (stretched to fit the width) and I had less control over what the embedded player looked like (eg. turn off suggested videos at end of video).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there,

Thanks for writing in! What you are trying to accomplish is not usual. It could be possible with custom development, but this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. You may wish to consult a developer to assist you with this. X is quite extensible with child themes, so there are plenty of possibilities. Thanks for understanding. Take care!
