ggoudeyParticipantI am trying to craft a Grid skin that will suit my needs. What I want to achieve is to have text related to a specific post in the image portion of a masonry grid. I sometimes have post titles that are fairly long because they include a geographic location… as you can see on my front page. http://www.peacelocalfood.info/
I can shorten the title by eliminating the location and placing it in an element overlaying the featured image.
I have gone over the Grid documentation and the only thing close to an explanation that they provide, I will post in a screenshot below. I don’t quite understand their example, or if it is suitable for my need.It would have to be a process where the text would be called up from some data of the post itself: keyword, meta, tag or whatever else would work.

ggoudeyParticipantI have managed to get the location in the skin by placing it in the excerpt portion of the post, but I lost the 55 word excerpt below the image? How can I have both?

RadModeratorHi there,
You manually added plain text in Excerpt meta box of your post, and it’s very short (two words). Eg. Tayloy, BC.
Please add longer text excerpt.
Thanks!

ggoudeyParticipantNo, sorry… you misunderstand. I want the excerpt from the post below the image which is the default mode. That I can do. If you reread the start of this thread you will see that I want to have the location text in the image (as it is now) but with the regular masonry text below the image. Somehow I want the location data in the post to be presented as a text overlay in the image. I’ve gone over and over the Grid documentation and can’t figure out how to do this. The screenshot I provided seems to indicate that this may be possible… but I don’t know how to code it.

RadModeratorHi there,
I went ahead and edited your skin for grid Top Recent 4267. Then I changed your layer IDLE style and set its position to absolute, then added custom style with z-index to 999. The excerpt such as “Taylor, BC” is now overlaying in the image. I also set the size to 100%x100% but you can change it to anything, and even positioning.
I’m assuming that the missing 55 words are the static text on the blue background, right? But since it’s source is post excerpt then it will not display those 55 words, instead, it will display excerpt such as “Taylor, BC”.
Thanks!

ggoudeyParticipantWell thanx for trying Rad. I rearranged things and included specific locations as a categories. This way they show up and then the execpt can be displayed below. I wanted just the location to show up in the overlay… but it doesn’t seem possible.

LelyModeratorHi There,
You’re always welcome.
I am not sure what you meant by location because I didn’t see a custom meta data location. Please clarify to help you betterMarch 7, 2017 at 5:07 pm #1398361
ggoudeyParticipantSo if I put a place name as a meta key word such as ‘Portland’ would that work? How would I call it up?

LelyModeratorHi There,
Please check this guide on how to use metadata:http://theme-one.com/docs/the-grid/#!/element_metadata
Hope this helps.

ggoudeyParticipantHi Lely. Thanks for pointing me back to documentation. I managed to figure it out. Actually more from the helper text in the grid skin editor. The grid docs were very scant on this.
