Hi, since the 4.2.2 update I have a problem where my footer widgets area’s are not expanding in the dashboard in order for me to make edits. There are widgets in all three of them, but for some reason I have to add a widget to the footer widget areas’s before I am able to see them. once I reload the page I have the same problem again. Please can you have a look:

I am not able to replicate this issue in my test site.
Can you try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
Please note that you can also edit your widgets in the customizer

December 10, 2015 at 6:45 am #700913Hi, I have deactivated all plugins apart from cornerstone, revslider and visual composer. I still have the same problem.
December 10, 2015 at 9:27 am #701115Hi there,
Thanks for updating. I am not sure why it’s happening on your site and it doesn’t seems to related with X. You can activate a default theme to see if that works or not.
Meantime you can use the Widgets from Customize > Widgets – http://prntscr.com/9cjxf0
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
December 10, 2015 at 3:28 pm #701565Hi, activated a default wordpress theme, but it did not make any difference as the custom sidebars dissapeared. I dont want to lose functionality for the widgets from the dashboard as I don’t want to give my client access to the customizer.
December 10, 2015 at 9:29 pm #701946Hi there,
Thanks for writing back. There is a new version of Cornerstone released. You can try updating Cornerstone.
Also this issue might caused by insufficient memory. You can try connecting to your root WordPress directory via FTP and open the file wp-config.php and add following at the bottom:
define( 'WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M' ); define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', '512M' );
Note that if your host limit the memory on server then it might not work. In that case ask your hosting provider to increase PHP memory limit.
You can find more information on http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

December 11, 2015 at 1:44 am #702285Hello There,
This issue is happening because you have disabled the footer widgets in your site. Please go to your customizer, Appearance > Customize > Footer > Footer Widget Areas and select the number of columns you want to display. Once it’s active, you can expand or collapse the Footer widgets in the widgets section, Appearance > Widgets.
Please let us know how it goes.
