https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/

December 2, 2016 at 7:49 pm #1279470Hi there,
Thanks for writing in.
It’s usually added by plugins, and you’ll just need to drag and drop them at Admin > Appearance > Widgets to your preferred sidebar.
If it’s just about subscription, you can try the ConvertPlug plugin or X’s Email form plugin then add its widget on the sidebar.
Cheers!

thanks a lot! understood the thing with adding widgets 😉
you suggest i use an email subscription plugin. how would it connect to the blog?
i would like to have every subscriber automatically informed the moment there is a new blog entry. is that possible?thanks a lot! kai
December 3, 2016 at 7:23 am #1279781You can try with this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/newsletter/.
Hope it helps 🙂
December 3, 2016 at 7:54 am #1279790hi thai,
thanks for your suggestion.
that looks like a normal newsletter solution like mailchimp.
but i would like to have a solution which connects to the blog. preferably only a button “subscribe” like the wordpress.com platform offers.
thanks a lot! kaiDecember 3, 2016 at 5:50 pm #1280093Hello Kai,
Thanks for updating in! Please keep in mind that the Follow Blog Widget is only available to WordPress.com users. This widget is not available to self hosted WordPress sites. If you want something similar, please check out Jetpack plugin’s module Subscription. You can find out more about it here: https://jetpack.com/support/subscriptions/
Hope this helps.
December 3, 2016 at 6:26 pm #1280108hi rue nel,
thanks for your tipp! i tried this one already but in order to subscribe one has also have to have or open a wordpress.com account. that is not something i want to put my potential subscribers through.
so the only other option is to use a seperate mailing list like mailchimp?thanks again! best regards, kai
December 4, 2016 at 12:56 am #1280289Hello There,
Thanks for updating in! You can try out the bundled X plugin called “Email Forms”. You can install it by going to X Addons > Extensions. For more details about this plugin and how you can set this up, please check out our knowledge base: https://community.theme.co/kb/extension-email-forms/
Please let us know how it goes.
December 4, 2016 at 3:42 am #1280351hi rue nel,
thanks a lot!
it would help me tremendously if you could let me know if the email list solution is all which is left for what i am trying to achive. is there no other way to subscribe people more easily? like let them log in by their social media account and then receive updates automatically?
thanks so much and have a great sunyday! kaiDecember 4, 2016 at 3:59 am #1280361Regretfully this isn’t a feature offered by X. It could be possible with custom development, but this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. You might want to contact our trusted partners who caters X setup and customization needs. Please see https://community.theme.co/custom-development/. Thanks for understanding. Take care!
December 4, 2016 at 11:21 am #1280592hi christian,
the newsletter plugin was a big help. thanks a lot!
i also found a solution via mailchimp by the rss feed of the blog.
best wishes, kai
