My efforts to repair the site failed. I’m hoping I can pull content from he DB and start over. It frightens me as I can’t rebuild from pieces every time there is an “update” or when it’s time to take this off a staging server.
Maybe I’m just expecting too much. ?

Did you update over FTP? It sounds like the update didn’t complete all the way, as a file is missing. You may want to try deleting X, and installing is fresh from the latest version. You won’t lose your content or settings as those are stored in the database. You can also review the update process here: https://community.theme.co/kb/updating-your-theme-and-plugins/
