Hi,
My WordPress website (http://www.stukelstone.com/) is running X 2.5 and Shortcodes 2.4.0.
The plugin update for WordPress shows that there is a plugin that needs updating. I have narrowed it down to the Shortcodes plugin because when it is deactivated the message disappears.
There must be a problem with the Shortcodes plugin started a week ago with the previous version of X. I thought that by updating to the latest version of X would solve the problem.
The other reason why I believe it is the Shortcodes plugin casing the message about a plugin that needs updating when all plugins are showing that they are up to date is I can not deactivate the Shortcodes plugin while the X Theme is active. I have to activate a different theme, then deactivate the Shortcodes plugin. That is when the message about the need to update a plugin disappears.
Please help as the website is ready for handover but the customer will not accept it with this error occurring.
Thanks,
Michael
September 18, 2014 at 8:58 pm #107707Hi Michael,
Thanks for posting in.
You cannot disable X – Shortcode plugin while X theme is active, because it’s a mandatory plugin. TGM Plugin ( plugin installer for X ) disallow deactivation of all required plugins.
As of my installed copy, X Shortcode 2.4.0 works just fine. Though yes, got some message that I should update plugins, but, just happened once and not occurring anymore Could be my browser cache.
Could you try re-installing your shortcode? Switch to another theme and deactivate X shortcode and delete it. Then switch back to your X theme and install X shortcode by Admin > Appearance > Install Plugins. You may need to re-download a new copy of X theme 2.5.0 if your copy was downloaded before 5:41pm (CST).
Thanks!
September 18, 2014 at 9:39 pm #107714Hi Again,
I have worked out what was causing the False Plugin Update Notification. I deliberately did not install the WPBakery Visual Composer plugin because I was not using it and I thought it only one more plugin to keep up to date.
Once I had installed the WPBakery Visual Composer plugin the WordPress notification disappeared. So I have just learnt that you need to install the WPBakery Visual Composer plugin from X otherwise WordPress will notify you that there is a plugin that needs to be updated.
I do not have all your recommended plugins installed but this is not creating a notification message in WordPress.
Is this line of reasoning correct?
Thanks,
Michael
September 18, 2014 at 10:27 pm #107732Hi Michael,
You should get notification for X’s recommended plugin. I just tried it to to confirm if it’s a bug. But it’s not. It could be that you’re just seeing caches of your site.
Would you mind providing a video recording showing this issue at your end?
In my case, they are themes that I just updated (which I thought were plugins under dashboard menu) and still got update notice even after updating them. Refreshing page solve it on my end.
Thank you.
September 26, 2014 at 10:03 am #113215I was searching for this issue here on the forums as I don’t have the WPBakery Visual Composer plugin istalled either (nor do I want it ;)) and I have the same false plugin update notice.
When I install the WPBakery Visual Composer plugin the notice goes away, when I remove the WPBakery Visual Composer plugin the notice comes back.
While not a major issue, it is annoying and it would be great if you guys would come up with a fix for this, other then installing a plugin you don’t need or want 😉

Thanks for your words, we’ll consider this in next version. I’ve forwarded this issue to our development team.
