Hi,
I am getting a fault when generating the sitemap using Yoast SEO. When I view source of the error there is a large white gap before the opening <?xml
I have decativated the plugins (except yoast) and then a 404 error is visible when creating the sitemap. I have had a look at the functions file and all seems ok.
So I am stuck I am not sure if its a plugin or the theme. I believe prior to updating to 4.0 all was ok.
Thanks in advance
Tim
October 13, 2014 at 1:10 pm #124450Hi Tim,
Thank you for writing in!
You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
Please also review this thread: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/sitemap-error-xml-declaration-allowed-only-at-the-start-of-the-document
Thanks!

October 14, 2014 at 11:22 am #125076Can you confirm that you are fully updated? (Theme and Plugins)
The latest version of X is 2.6.0 and the x-shortcodes plugin is 2.5.0. Please verify you have both of these versions, they need to be in sync or Javascript issues can occur.
You can find the latest version numbers here: (http://theme.co/x/member/changelog/) Then you can compare them to what’s installed on your site.
If you find anything to be out of date, you can review our update guide.

Check your themes functions.php file and other plugins for trailing whitespace (or opening whitespace) outside of the <?php and ?> tags. I think something is outputting whitespace before the SEO plugin has a chance to display the sitemap and that is the most likely cause.
Hope that helps
October 15, 2014 at 10:33 am #125758Could it be wordpress itself? I’ve installed twentyfourteen, deactivated all plugins except yoast and the problem still exists.
October 15, 2014 at 11:15 am #125795Probably an issue with your installation,
You can try re-installing it under Dashboard > Updates or install a fresh copy of wordpress
