    Hi,

I set my menu pages as child theme so as to protect the custom code that I put into them. However, this automatically adds “home/” into the page URL name after the domain name. How do I go about removing “home/”, so that the URL is the same as if it had no parent theme? I’ve already given out these links, so it has to stay the same.

    Currently the URL is:

    positivepickup.com/home/services/

& I want it to be:

    positivepickup.com/services/

I’m using X theme and cornerstone.

Is there any way to do this?

    Thanks,
    Dana

    Also,

I read that the only pages that need to be on Child Theme are the ones with Custom Code in the “functions.php” custom code area.

Are there any other instances when I would need to use a Child Theme?
Should I just be safe and use Child Themes on every page that isn’t the Home page?

    Much Thanks

    Hi there,

Thanks for writing in! Simply head over to Settings -> Reading section within your WordPress backend and then select the option A static page. From the below options there, you can select your homepage and your blog page. Save the changes and check your site.

    Thanks!

    Thank you,

I think you misunderstood my question though. My homepage is already set to home and A Static Page is already selected.

What I need to do is:

Set a page up as child theme
Without adding “home/” to the URL
I want to remove the “home/” part from the URL but it won’t allow me to make changes to anything but the page name once it has been turned into a child theme.

    For example:

    danagarrison.com/services/

when turned into a child theme becomes

    danagarrison.com/home/services/

I want to remove the “home/” from the page URL, but when I click edit only “services/” becomes editable

Please tell me how I can go about doing this.

    Much Thanks!

    Hi there,

I’m not able to see the issue, please see the attachment. As you stated in initial post, this happens when child theme is active but there is no child theme in your site.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I think you mean child page like this – http://screencast.com/t/aKXiWPlBP

If you would like to remove /home I’d suggest to add your page as main page rather than child of your home.

Removing it deliberately will cause more harm than good.

    Thanks

    Hi!

Yes, I turned off child theme cuz I need my links I’ve given out in the past to work.

Maybe I dont understand what a child theme does/how it works.

I was told to build my site on a child theme cuz when updates happen, things would break less often.

But I need my site to have URLs without an additional word in the URL as I’ve already posted my links without the word “home” in them, in numerous places over the years. When people follow those older links, they wont be able to find the page.

    For example:

I’ve posted: http://www.danagarrison.com/services in many places over the years

I can’t have the actual URL be: http://www.danagarrison.com/home/services/

Are you saying if I want to use the child theme option, I have to have an extra word like “home” inserted into my URLs?

    Hi there,

No, you don’t have to add home to your URLs.
To let us see the issue, please setup a child theme, to do so check this link : https://community.theme.co/kb/how-to-setup-child-themes/

    Thanks.
