Hi,
If I make edits in text mode to a page built in cornerstone will those changes automatically be deleted/lost if I make edits to the page in cornerstone later? I’m asking because sometimes I want to make a minor text change and cornerstone is pretty clunky to get into for one little thing. I’m hoping that I can make changes without having to go into cornerstone every single time.
Thanks!July 8, 2015 at 11:53 am #324530Hello There,
Thanks for writing in! You can’t edit the page with Cornerstone that’s not created with Cornerstone and vice versa.
If you need to edit anything you can do it from Cornerstone that also includes option to add your custom CSS and JavaScripts.Hope this makes sense.
Cheers!
July 8, 2015 at 12:18 pm #324543Thanks for your reply. Is it possible to use x without using cornerstone? I was hoping I wouldn’t have to launch cornerstone for minor edits. It is very clunky and slow to get into and out of. For example, it takes about 30 seconds to load cornerstone to edit a page, 2 seconds to make the change and then another 5 seconds to save and another 30 seconds to get back to wordpress. Not very economical. I might have to re-consider using x if there isn’t an easier way.
July 8, 2015 at 1:33 pm #324615Hi There,
Thanks for updating! Cornerstone includes most of the major functionality of X including shortcodes. If you don’t want to use it for page editing that’s fine. You can use default WordPress editor and Visual Composer to built your pages. You have number options to choose to edit your page. So I believe you won’t face any limitation with X.
Cheers!
July 8, 2015 at 2:41 pm #324691Ok. I read somewhere that you were going to eventually eliminate Visual Composer from X. Is there any truth to that? If so, I don’t want to develop new sites using it if it is going to be obsolete.
July 8, 2015 at 3:42 pm #324757Hi There,
There is no news on eliminating Visual Composer without a good alternative. As many people using it, we can’t eliminate it suddenly or near future. It will be a optional editor for X I believe.
Thanks

July 8, 2015 at 10:31 pm #325098Hi There,
Yes, we’ll continue supporting Visual composer. However, we will not be mapping in any new shortcodes or functionality. We will continue to offer some form of backwards compatibility to ensure that any old sites built with this integration that have not been updated do not break, but we strongly encourage users to migrate their pages in one of two directions: towards Cornerstone compatibility or vanilla Visual Composer compatibility.
Thanks!
August 16, 2015 at 8:40 am #360437Since devs aren’t interested in their customers’ request for a simple and straightforward feature (direct text editing), you can do this ridiculous workaround:
click on post revisions, highlight the offending section of text, and use the “better search replace” plugin to change it.NOTE: cornerstone will NOT update to reflect changes made to your shortcodes using this method, which is a total bummer.
August 16, 2015 at 11:43 am #360541Hey @bennyp
Thanks for updating! We certainly appreciate the feedback from our customers and always work to build for them! Note that Visual Builders works a bit differently than the default editor. If you change the generated code then the structure might be broken and the builder won’t work. But it’s still getting better on each update and it might be possible in future. If you feel good in editing text then you can use the default editor and shortcodes to build your pages. We have several editors for your convenience. Let’s choose what you love.
Cheers!

@rupok I think the problem is that we have to pick ONE editor for the life of a page. Ideally X would be more agile than that.
Using Cornerstone for building a page layout and style is great on the first go around, but editing the CONTENT of that page is a colossal pain in the butt. It makes development really slow when clients want changes made. And then, after the site is built, encourages static content which everyone knows is a death knell.
There’s more discussion that could be had on this topic, but basically it would be nice to be able to edit text without having to launch an entire application to do it.
I’m unfortunately more likely to use other premium themes instead of X because of this one thing, depending on clients need and involvement of course. If a client wants a static site with nifty features that won’t be updated for a few years, X is the go-to theme. Sad but true. Love everything about X but this poorly thought out ‘feature’.
August 16, 2015 at 7:21 pm #360707Hi guys,
We understand your point, and that limitation. I’ll forward your suggestions and comments to our developer. Though, I think it’s made that way due to issues VC’s brought before. Direct editing of text though editor could cause layout break down or corruption when switched to the builder. And if we will compare the issues from before and right now, it’s fewer right now than what we had while we’re on VC.
Though, we will maybe going to think some workaround to improve our builder.
Thanks guys!
