    Hi
Can you please advise if we need to put the “skip to main content” accessibility link in or is this part of the wai-aria now and is not required to meet WCAG 2.0. We have to ensure x-theme and our site has met all WCAG 2.0 standards

    Thank you

Thank you for your reply – sorry for delay. I will put the login details in the following reply. Before I do that though we have had a legally blind lady test the website/theme using Jaws screen reader. She said the menu navigation bar for Ethos which we are using is not coming up at all. The content is what they go to straight away but after testing a few times the menu navigation does not come up. We have used the stacked setting in ethos customizer for the header so the logo/header is on top of the menu.

We can tab through to the menu so I don’t understand why the screen reader is not picking up the menu. Have you tested this with a screen reader and how would we ensure the screen reader can read the menu navigation bar?

Because accessibility is becoming a major requirement for larger sites it will make such a difference to know your theme is fully accessible.

Thank you sincerely in advance for your advice on the above two issues

    Hi there,

I’m sorry we couldn’t answer you before. To clarify on the first question, it’s not required but highly recommended for accessibility.

We follow modern best practices for coding, and seek to adhere as much as possible to the W3C specification. Regretfully, we’re unable to guarantee that every site will be 100% compliant. Working out these type of issues falls outside the scope of our support.

However, we can certainly try to help point you in the right direction. I did a scan of your site here: http://achecker.ca/checker/index.php

I don’t see any major problems. It’s ok to use those i elements because the element has been repurposed for icons and isn’t used for text content.

Are you running any plugins that add additional markup? This could change how things operate. You might also want to test the menu with the inline navigation to see if it makes a difference.
