    I’d like to display a list of Pages in a similar fashion to the recent_posts shortcode.

    Ideally, I would like to use a parent Page in the same way “category” is used to filter posts with recent posts shortcode.

    That way I can display all the Event pages in a list (with “Events” as the parent page)

    Is there any way to accomplish this?

    Sorry but you can’t achieve that with recent posts element. I checked and found following plugin, see
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/child-pages-shortcode/.
