I have made a template in Cornerstone and I want to copy it to one of my other sites.
With previous Visual Composer etc. I could just copy the shortcode.
How do I do that now?
Thanks
May 27, 2015 at 11:50 pm #283963Hi Pepnet,
You can still copy the shortcodes… Just enter the backend editor like normal, and visit the text or visual tabs. Cornerstone will warn you that editing anything in the text-based editor will potentially cause issues, but you can ignore that unless you have change to make.
Then copy all those shortcodes and paste them into a new site where you’re using cornerstone. Piece of cake… just like before… so long as the content within is still the same (like images and such). Shouldn’t be any different than doing it from VC.

May 28, 2015 at 12:13 am #283983Actually that’s not correct.
I created a new page and copied the shortcodes and everything across and then I get this warning:
Hold up! The content has been modified outside of Cornerstone. Editing in Cornerstone will reset your changes. Do you wish to continue?
When I ignore it and enter Cornerstone like you said, Cornerstone gives me a blank ‘welcome to Cornerstone’ page.

You can always save your template and re-use it later. Go to your layout section of your cornerstone and click template then save. It will give you two option, to download it, or to save it in your template library. Then after, you can import your downloaded template or re-insert your template to your new page from your saved templates from library.
Please check this for more information https://community.theme.co//kb/cornerstone-interface-layout/
Thanks!
May 28, 2015 at 4:52 am #284234The option to download a template is fantastic !! you can migrate to other projects with ease !.
Thank you very much.
May 28, 2015 at 5:45 am #284283Yes well the templetara add on for VC has allowed that for quite some time
May 28, 2015 at 10:36 am #284604Just to confirm as well, the method of copy and pasting the shortcodes doesn’t work with Cornerstone. You can do that if you just want the shortcodes, but there is more cornerstone data behind the scenes not tied to the shortcodes. This method is a bit different, but it affords us greater flexibility in keeping templates portable, and actually allows Cornerstone to load faster.
August 19, 2015 at 11:37 am #363522Hi, I have selected to download one of my pages through cornerstone.
What do I need to do with that code to insert it into another site using cornerstone? Many Thanks,
PhilAugust 19, 2015 at 2:10 pm #363655Hi Phil,
If you have downloaded your Cornerstone template (see: http://prntscr.com/86jsd8), you can simply upload it in your other website under Templates > Upload in Cornerstone (see: http://prntscr.com/86jsji).
Thanks!
August 19, 2015 at 3:45 pm #363729Thats brilliant thank you.
What format should I save the file? Thanks
PhilAugust 19, 2015 at 6:48 pm #363880Hi Phil,
Thanks for updating the thread! Just use the default format (CSL), this way you can import it properly. Hope this helps – thanks!
September 30, 2015 at 9:20 am #604820Hi, just wanted to add a suggestion to add the .CSL filetype information into the KB article posted above and possibly into the download dialog itself.
When i click that download button in safari it simply opens a new tab with all the content in plain text (looks similar to an xml file) instead of actually downloading it with the extension appended.

Thanks for your feedback! I’ll forward it to our editorial staff.
December 19, 2015 at 6:07 pm #714132I Having the same problem Scott mentioned. How do I convert the new tab and its contents into an actual .CSL file?
December 19, 2015 at 10:04 pm #714278Hello Alex,
Thanks for updating the thread! You cannot simply convert a new tab to a .csl template. You have to edit the page in Cornerstone and go to the Layouts Tab > Templates and click “save”. http://prntscr.com/86jsd8
You can then download the page as .csl template file. You can use this to import as a page or block template. http://prntscr.com/86jsjiHope this helps.
