lypaParticipantDear Themeco Support Team
For my client’s site “www.morga.ch” i use an X Integrity Child Theme with:
– WordPress 4.4.2
– Cornerstone Version 1.0.6 (which i actually do not use, since my client is used to editing with the “old” backend)
– X theme 4.1.0We are using the X theme since summer 2014 now and have been quite happy with the theme and very happy with the support so far. But please note, that, due to time and budget restrictions, we are not able to update regularly or re-built everything with Cornerstone on this project. So if we want to realize new stuff it should work with our current setup.
Currently we plan like to make a small content update and add a page for our summer challenge. Therefore we have 3 questions we would be very happy if you had some advice for us on these:
(1) We would like to establish a page for an upcoming contest where users can submit their contest contributions to us (the contributions are photos). Is it possible to have a photo upload field within a contact form and which shortcode should we use for the form and the field? So far, we are working with contact form 7.
(2) We would like to announce the contest on the start page with a small teaser (image with some small text and button linked to the contest page). Is there a small teaser element that can be laid over the content temporarily and scrolls with the content. I remember there was an extension for that, but i can not find it anymore (content dock extension?).
(3) The site is very slow again, though Ben Ryan did some speed optimisation in fall 2015 for us. Do you know why it is this slow again by now and what we can do about it? Is it just the pictures?
Kind Regards,

FriechModeratorHi Lypa,
Thanks for writing in! #1 Regretfully, there is no CS element that lets the users submit the photo. The Contact Form 7 might be your best option for this kind of featured. It could be possible with custom development, but this would be outside the scope of support we can offer.
#2 Yes, that is the Content Dock extension, which you can install under Addons > Extensions.
#3 The only issue I saw that can possibly derail the loading process, is the page is requesting this font which is invalid. Try resetting this font (Sans Pro) and see if the URL will be updated.
Hope it helps, Cheers!

lypaParticipantHello Friech
Thank you for helping.
#1 Can you recommend someone for custom development?
#2 Ok, great. I will try this.
#3 Do you have any advice / documentation link on how i can reset this font? Can this be done via the WP backend?
Kind Regards,

Rue NelModeratorHi Lypa,
For more assistance, you might want to contact our trusted partners who caters X setup and customization needs. Please see Our Trusted Customization Partners. For more faster interaction, you might want to ask anyone in the X users community group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/xthemeusers/
Please try and select other fonts from your customizer, Appearance > Customize > Typography. And by the way, X 4.4.1 and Cornerstone 1.2.2 are now available! This release contains several bug fixes and we’re quite excited about the new features, so be sure to check out the changelog. Please do update to the latest version. After doing the updates, always remember to clear all caches when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.
Please let us know how it goes.

lypaParticipantHi Rue
Thank you for helping. As you suggested to update I have one last question about the update process:
What is the best order / best practice of how the elements should be updated one after another (like update 1. theme, 2 . plugins, 3. Cornerstone,…)?
Since we had some appearance / styling problems the last times when we updated (styles were missing, elements looking different etc.) i want to make sure, that we do not have to re-style the whole site after all those updates (we do not have the budget for that).
Would be great if you had any advice on that.
Thank you very much again and have a great day,

ChristianModeratorHey Lypa,
The first one to update is X then Cornerstone and after that, the extensions.
Regarding the styling issues during the recent update, that is because of the change of styles directory. We are sorry for that but it was a necessary improvement going forward. We do not do that often and if issues arise due to those changes, we are here to help.
Thanks.

Nabeel AModeratorHi again,
There are errors generating browser’s console, please try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

lypaParticipantHi Nabeel
Thanks for your reply. Seems like it is the plugin WPML Translation Management. But i need to use this plugin for translations, so what can i do? It is an old version. Would updating solve the problem? and can i update without updating X and Cornerstone, since i have not updated for a while and do not have the time to read the changelog and do all the adjustments (have a new baby that requires all attention).
I appreciate your help.
Thank you

JadeModeratorHi Lypa,
Although you can update the WPML plugin without updating X and Cornerstone, we strongly recommend users to be updated to the latest version to make sure everything will work well. If you intend you update everything, it would be advisable to setup a clone of your website which would be the staging environment where you can apply the updates without touching the live site then eventually updating the live site if things work smoothly during the update.

lypaParticipantHello Jade,
Thank you for your advice. Is there a staging environment functionality in X or can you recommend any staging environment plugin or recommmend a best practice?
Kind Regards,
Lypa

Rue NelModeratorHi Lypa,
Regretfully there sin’t any available staging plugin. You can try this WP plugins repository. You may try this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-staging/

lypaParticipantHi There,
I could install the WP Staging Plugin but not use it: Pressing the “Create new staging site” button did not show any effect. So i decided to update X, Cornerstone and the other Plugins in the order that was recommended. But now my site looks “broken” as if the stylesheet is not applied (pls see screenshot attached).
Do you have any advice on that?
Thank you very much.
Kind Regards,
