Hi staff,
Cornerstone not loading and not saving changes is definitely caused by the new update of the Contact Form 7 update, a plugin that is now useless in Cornerstone. Since the update Contact Form 7 causes the spinning wheels when opening Cornerstone and also prevents Cornerstone from actually saving changes made to whatever element.
For now I can’t use CF 7 though I need a form. Any suggestions for a good alternative to CF 7 (that is not to expensive)?
June 8, 2015 at 6:38 pm #296344Hello There,
Thanks for writing in! It sounds like you might be having an issue with a third party plugin or script. Regretfully, we cannot provide support for third party plugins or scripts as our support policy in the sidebar states due to the fact that there is simply no way to account for all of the potential variables at play when using another developer’s plugin or script. Because of this, any questions you have regarding setup, integration, or troubleshooting any piece of functionality that is not native to X will need to be directed to the original developer.
Having said that as your are looking for a alternative to Contact Form 7, you can have a look at Ninja Forms.
Thanks.
June 9, 2015 at 4:21 am #296652I’m sorry but that is a lame answer. When I installed third party plugin Contact Form 7 it was automatically added to the Cornerstone Elements side pane, thus suggesting its implementation exceeds the mere ‘third party plugin’ mantra. See the image:
Also, in another thread:
Hi there,
For those who are having issues with Contact Form 7 latest release v4.2, could you please try downloading earlier version v4.1.2 from this link (https://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/developers/) and update your plugin.
Our development team will look into this issue and update a release if thereโs a possible incompatibility issue.
Thank you for your understanding.
June 9, 2015 at 7:57 am #296801A workaround is to remove the Contact Form 7 element from you website via Cornerstone.
Then find the sortcode for your contact form, for example: [contact-form-7 id=”1″ title=”Contact form 1″].At the location your Contact Form 7 element was in Cornerstone add a textfield and past the sortcode in there.
Now your contact form should work again.June 9, 2015 at 9:21 am #296911Contactform 7 is your first third party element that you added to cornerstone: More to follow says the roadmap. When you add it to cornerstone it is your job to support it. Otherwise don’t create an item for it.
June 9, 2015 at 9:58 am #296960@crossivity I’m aware of that workaround but CF 7 also wreaks havoc on Cornerstone loading and saving. No option therefore. I replaced the plugin with the previous version as advised by X Staff in that other thread.
June 9, 2015 at 1:29 pm #297153Hi There,
Yes, this is a known bug after the Contact Form 7 update amd it is already forward to our dev team. We’ll do our best to fix this on our next releases.
Thank you so much for understanding.
June 9, 2015 at 3:38 pm #297293@yingfuli Any idea if my existing forms will remain intact if I delete CF7 and reinstall the earlier version as suggested?
June 10, 2015 at 1:10 am #297638@photobot If you download the previous version of CF7 and just drop it in your plugins folder via FTP it will just overwrite the current version, leaving all data intact.
If you first delete the current version in the WP dashboard and then install the previous one, I’m not sure your forms will be saved. In principle deleting a plugin will remove all of its data.
June 10, 2015 at 7:09 am #297919Thanks for helping out. Doing it the way outlined above should not lead to any data loss since everything is stored in the database.
June 15, 2015 at 2:05 am #302027Just an FYI to everyone, the suggestion to insert the form using the shortcode in a text field works like a charm. No hold up, no slow down, no endless spinning wheel of doom. Thanks, guys!
June 15, 2015 at 5:03 am #302150You’re welcome Byron! ๐
June 15, 2015 at 7:02 am #302236@byron Only with the previous version of CF 7 since the update of CF 7 itself causes the spinning wheels and not saving issue.
June 15, 2015 at 11:38 am #302482Thank you so much for clarifying Ying-Fu L.
Any clarifications? just let us know.
Have a great day! ๐
