Hello,
I’m trying to move my x license to a sub-domain for testing a new layout and I am receiving this error.
“This site URL is not a match for your API key.”
I have checked and re checked and the URL I am using to create the API key is the same.
Is there any issues with activation of X theme on sub domains?
kindly, Matt
January 6, 2016 at 7:17 pm #735081Hello Matt,
Thanks for posting in.
License will work in subdomains like http://www.yourdomain.com/subdomain however in subdomain.yourdomain.com it will not work and will require separate license. You can revoke your existing API key and then generate a new one using your subdomain.
This thread might also help: https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/problems-updatingapi-keydev-subdomain/Hope this helps.
January 7, 2016 at 10:30 am #736037Hello,
Your answer is extremely confusing.
I have revoked the API for mattsterp.com I have disabled x theme as the theme for mattsterp.com. Not using x theme on that url now and I do not plan to use it their anymore I have switched to genesis for my main site. I would like to use x theme expanded demo on another sub domain URL however. (not sub directory)
I have added restaurant.mattsterp.com to my API key generator. I take the API key generated from that URL and it does not work.
Am I to believe that you cant use X theme on a sub domain. In your answer you describe a sub directory as though its a sub domain.
This is a sub domain restaurant.mattsterp.com I want to use x theme here.
This is a sub directory mattsterp.com/example I do not use sub directories at all.
Please a clear answer is all I need. Can I use X theme on a sub domain?
Here is the structure I am looking for top level domain: mattsterp.com (Genesis theme)
Sub domain restaurant.mattsterp.com (X theme)
Is this possible?
The link you provided does not apply to my situation but thank you for posting it anyway.
Thank you kindly,
Matthew Peters
January 7, 2016 at 2:33 pm #736405Hi Matthew,
Yes you could definitely use a subdomain to validate your X Theme installed. We could try checking it for you but kindly provide us with the admin details or your subdomain site and the API key in a private response.
Thank you.

Thank you very much for checking this out.I guess the new question I have is.. Is the X theme compatible with Multi-site?
I am setting up a network featuring WPMUdev Pro sits plugin (like edublogs) and I was planning on having my customers buy copies of the X theme for use on their sub sites. The sub sites would all be sub domains (sub sites of my multi-site)
Is this going to be possible?
Thank you very much for your help. X is the best theme and I really want my network members to be able to buy their own licenses.
January 8, 2016 at 4:04 pm #737927Hi there,
Yes, it’s possible, but you’ll be activating one license only since it’s a single installation. And as a recommendation since you’re planning to do that, why not just use some coding or API that will automatically create sub-domain and installation separately? I think with that setup, it’s best to have separate installation just it case something goes wrong. All your user will be affected with just a single mistake on a single installation.
Thanks.
January 8, 2016 at 5:06 pm #737984Hello,
Im not sure I follow what you are saying. I am using WP multi site to create the sites it is automatic. If im not using multi site than I cant use the Pro Sites plugin to manage my network of users.January 8, 2016 at 11:19 pm #738256Hi there,
It’s just my recommendation, you can continue what you’re currently doing if your plugin will not gonna work on separate sites.
You can continue with sub-site setup, and it should depend on your Pro-sites functionality. But you can’t activate API Key for each sub-site. You can still impose license per site, while API Key is just to enable automatic and extension installation.
Well, you don’t really need API Key per sub-site since once you update it from your main site, the rest of the sub-site will be updated too. MU uses same files and installation for different sub-site. One update to user’s site will update other user’s file too, that’s the problem with MU.
Thanks.
