    Your xtheme version is very old.

    Please update theme and plugins and see if this solves the problem

    We already updated everything on our internal QA environment and it made no difference.

    Any other ideas?

    Hi again,

    You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

    I got it working installing the Category pagination fix plugin.

    I disabled all plugins and it didn’t work, so I tried disabling the X theme and using the default twenty twelve theme and it was still not working so I figured it wasn’t related with the theme at all but a WordPress issue with custom permalinks. Finally I ran into this Category pagination fix plugin and it did the trick.
