I’ll try to list all the info I can think of to see if anyone can come up with a solution.
I’m using Uniform Server to run WordPress on my PC.
The ‘URL Address’ for the wordpress installation is:
http://localhost:78/wordpress/wp-admin/In ‘WordPress Settings General’ I have: http://localhost:78/wordpress
(I have tried changing ‘localhost’ to the PC’s IP Address, but that didn’t work either)So what should I be trying now?
November 30, 2014 at 7:41 am #155286Everything I try just ends up with:
Unauthorized URL for this API key.
Why???
;o(
November 30, 2014 at 8:53 am #155313Right!
I may have success – but NOT by following the instructions, as they DO NOT WORK!
I had to enter: http://localhost:78/wordpress
The API key then again said the URL was: 78
But, validation worked!
This is crazy – this is without doubt the worse validation process I have ever had the misfortune to come across!
Nothing – and I mean nothing – works as suggested in the instructions!!!I am really, really unhappy about the whole situation!!!
November 30, 2014 at 6:33 pm #155443Hi there,
Validation are just meant for real domains. Though we also enable localhost validation for development which we do not guarantee its validation success (user can still manually update or install extensions). Localhost with port other than 80 will not gonna work, it’s best to make your server resolve to port 80 since it is the valid http port. Though full url might work as well just like yours. Again, we do not fully support trouble shooting local installation, though we can always help if possible and easy.
Thank you.
December 2, 2014 at 10:58 am #156685Hi again
I think support above are correct, in that the issue is with your port number (78).
By default, all http addresses use the port number 80, which your computer reserves for your web browser. If you can change your localhost wordpress address so that it uses port number 80, it should work, and if you can change it you will not need it in your site’s address as http will use it by default.Trying to host a site using port 78 would result in address issues. However, how you change it using your setup and on a PC I can’t help I am afraid. I am a Mac man and am using MANP.
Are you able to change the port number in your Uniform Server Application?
Hope you manage to get it sorted soon.

Thank you so much for your helping other users! 🙂
Have a wonderful day!
January 30, 2015 at 3:38 am #195019Ok this might be of help to those using local hosting and unable to get their url validated. Don’t use your url as the API reference use whatever you have in your local address after localhost: mine were 8888 no idea why but its worked after 10 days of head scratching and very little support.
January 30, 2015 at 10:47 am #195335Thanks for sharing! To clarify, it’s only meant to work if your site URL is a domain. There are some limitations in place to prevent it from being used on multiple sites, so we’ve disallowed IP and port based URLs as well.
