Good Evening,
I am still in the baptism by fire phase of learning to navigate WordPress, Php, CSS, etc. and we would like to make a few changes to the way our forum area looks and works. The site is http://www.theappliquecircle.com.
Currently, when you open a topic, the reply button appears at the top of the topic and each subsequent reply to the topic. Our members are use to a reply buttons coming at the bottom of each post.
1. Is there a way to move the location of the reply button?
We would also like to see replies to replies indented so that you can differentiate between Replies to the topic and replies to replies (Discussion Thread Style).
2. How do I force replies to indent?
The last question I have for this topic has to do with css handles (I think that is what they are called). I see lots of entries in your forum where you suggest adding this custom css or that custom css. Is there a list (preferably hierarchical) of all the X-Theme attributes that could be adjusted through css?
Thanks,
Luke HunterJuly 7, 2015 at 1:19 am #322858Hello Luke,
Thanks for posting in and giving us your site URL.
Please provide access to your forum so we can check what we can do. Though, we can’t promise a fix for this. If this can be achieve by simple CSS custmozation we can help but if it requires a template change, you may want to consult a developer as this is beyond the support we can give. As stated on the right side of this forum we cannot provide support for 3rd party plugins or script. Thank you for understanding.July 7, 2015 at 7:38 am #323061This reply has been marked as private.July 7, 2015 at 8:37 am #323113Hello Luke,
1) We have checked your forum page and changing the position of reply button isn’t a feature offered by X. It could be possible with custom development, but this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. You may wish to consult a developer to assist you with this.
2) To implement hierarchical threaded reply in bbPress kindly navigate to Forums Settings page, and check the Reply Threading checkbox.
3) We have published a list of CSS class that you can use to customize and extend the UI of X. Request you to kindly walk-through following page:
https://community.theme.co//kb/css-class-index/
Hope that helps. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to post here and we’d be happy to provide further assistance!
Thanks.
July 7, 2015 at 11:22 am #323338Completely understand on the custom changes, and thank you for the index. That is exactly what I was after.
As for hierarchical threaded reply, I did (and still do) have the Reply Threading checkbox checked. I have changed the rights to the login information above so that you can see how I have the settings setup. I also set up a sample thread at https://theappliquecircle.com/forums/topic/first-test/ with a main topic, two replies to the main topic, two replies to the first level reply, and a reply to the second level reply. The replies were generated by selecting the Reply button in the header of the element of the thread to which I was replying. Currently, everything is displayed in the order the reply was made, so you can’t visually tell which element each reply is referring. What am I missing?
Thanks,
Luke HunterJuly 7, 2015 at 1:43 pm #323478Hi Luke,
Thanks for writing in!
Have you made any template change? The structure of bbpress replies looks broken unlike our demo: http://theme.co/x/demo/renew/1/groups/the-matrix/forum/topic/agent-smith-best-bad-guy-ever/.
I’m also seeing some 3rd party plugins installed in your website, so I’d also advise you test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
Thanks!
July 7, 2015 at 10:02 pm #323887The only change to the template was adding Custom CSS to change the background color of bbPress and BuddyPress. None of the template files have been touched.
I went to my staging site and turned off all plugins except for bbPress and Cornerstone. This had no effect on the order of replies or the indention. I then set up a clean copy of WordPress on my laptop and added bbPress using the Twenty-Fifteen theme. The indention worked and replies were nested and grouped as one would expect them to be. I then added X Theme to the clean install and the forum displayed as expected. This leads me to believe that I have a setting wrong, or I have inadvertently made a change to a file that is effecting bbPress. I have modified functions.php and wp-config.php. Can you point me in the right direction on how to go about troubleshooting this?
Thanks,
Luke HunterJuly 8, 2015 at 6:07 am #324190Hi Luke,
This looks like a conflict in plugin itself. I tested in my local setup, same results on both X and default Twenty Fifteen themes (see: http://prntscr.com/7q7zhv, the comments should go inside li.bbp-body).
I’ll forward it to my developers for further investigation.
Thanks!
July 8, 2015 at 6:17 pm #324899I just went into our staging site, deleted the bbPress plugin and then reinstalled it. No change from the way it was performing was observed.
July 8, 2015 at 8:22 pm #324966Hi there,
Yes, it’s a bug from plugin itself. It will be just the same even if you re-install it since the bug is from itself. It’s best if you contact the plugin’s author too while we’re conducting our own investigation.
Thanks!
July 9, 2015 at 4:55 pm #326050For clarification, you are saying that the bug is in the bbPress plugin, correct?
July 9, 2015 at 6:24 pm #326116Yes, that’s correct.
November 16, 2015 at 10:49 pm #667841I have the same issue. My threaded replies in bbpress disappeared once I added the X theme. I noticed also that in your demo you are not using nested replies. http://theme.co/x/demo/renew/1/groups/the-matrix/forum/topic/agent-smith-best-bad-guy-ever/
How can I let you see into my private forum without exposing credentials on this forum so you can take a look?
November 17, 2015 at 12:29 am #667929Hi @rodney-tli,
The best way to provide us with your login credentials is to create a new thread and use the Set as private reply option below this reply box. This will ensure only our staff get your info.
Please make sure to also link this thread as a reference so it’s easier to trace back.
Let us know how that goes. Hope this helps – thanks!
