Hi,
My site name is http://antonnette.com I use the Ethos theme, and I have almost completely re-customized it through the Edit Global CSS customize feature using various help forums.
My site seems to be running really slow compared to other sites I visit on my browser and according to speed graders on Bluehost.com I believe this is due to a TON of custom CSS I have added, I didn’t realize there would be any negative outcomes by adding so much CSS code. Can you talk me through adding it in the style.CSS file or other ways to add it so might sight is faster? If the X team could do this for me that would be AMAZING!
I can send you my login information but I don’t know how to send a support message privately?
Thank you,
Antonnette
July 19, 2016 at 9:31 pm #1094659It’s possible to make your site load faster if you use the X child theme instead, especially since you’ve pretty much completely re-customized the entire theme.
The X child theme can be downloaded in the dashboard. What you’ll do is upload the child theme to your site and add all of your CSS changes to the child theme instead and the activate it. 🙂
I hope this helps a bit!

Thanks for writing in!
We first recommend you to setup child theme. After that export all the changes you have made into child theme. We have published a article that will help you in getting started with child theme.

After that please walk-through our performance optimization guide to improve load time of your website.

July 25, 2016 at 9:27 am #1101907I am already using the child theme. Can you tell me exactly what file to place the Global CSS into? Also, do I just copy paste it?
Thx!
July 25, 2016 at 10:10 am #1101971Hi There,
Yes, you copy and paste your CSS to the style.css of your Child Theme.
Upon analyzing your website, this is not your main issue.
You have a few blog posts with feature images that are way bigger than necessary.
I downloaded one image and it has around 1mb, so count how many images you have on your home page and how many mb need to be loaded in order that your site loads.
I would reccomend you re-uploading your images.
First of all you need do edit them to a more reasonable size, that meaning if you need a picture 800×800 you should not upload 1200x 1200.
I often use a Chrome addon called Page Ruler, to measure the necessary dimensions of the pics.
After re-sizing the pics on Photoshop or similar software I recommend you using http://www.tinypng.com to compress them.
Once you upload in your site you can try to instal WP SMush and compress them once again.
Thank will allow your images to still look good but will make your site much lighter.
Hope that helps
Joao
