    Hi there,

    Have you tried manual excerpt? You can do that by going on the very top of your currently editing post and click Screen Options, then check Excerpt. Then scroll down until you find the excerpt section.

    Then add your text excerpt manually.

    Hi tlauen,

    It looks like you are using older code. I’ve just updated my last response that contains the code for enabling excerpts in recent posts. Please remove the current code for recent posts from your child theme’s functions.php file and add the provided in this reply again: https://community.theme.co/forums/topic/add-excerpt-to-recent-posts-shortcode/page/3/#post-371408

    Glad to hear it worked!

    It could be possible to modify the recent posts code in depth to achieve a certain layout, but as this is a custom development, regretfully this would be outside the scope of support we can offer. If you need more in depth changes, you may wish to consult with a developer. X is quite extensible with child themes, so there are plenty of possibilities. https://theme.co/community/custom-development/

    I’ve read through this entire thread and tried all the different code placement in the Renew stack child theme, but the excerpt is not showing. I’m testing here: http://www.staging.bullseyelocations.com/

    Can you tell me what I might be doing wrong? I’m fine with the excerpt displaying by default and/or if I need to add the excerpt manually.

    Hello There,

    Would you mind providing us with login credentials so we can take a closer look? To do this, you can make a post with the following info:

    – Link to your site
    – WordPress Admin username / password
    – FTP credentials

    It’s best if you could start a new thread and provide necessary information in private reply.

    I’m not sure what time we could work on it, but we will check it first.

    This thread is old, and the code were changed and implementation will be different. And it would be harder to track it from this long thread.

    Hi there,

    I’ve gone through this thread, added the most recent code to the functions.php file and I’m not getting any excerpt on my recent posts, and it’s also showing all posts too, not capping it at the number I set.

    You can see it at

    The code I’ve used is on the left is
    [recent_posts count=”1″ orientation=”vertical” enable_excerpt=”true” ]

    and on the right it’s
    [recent_posts count=”4″ orientation=”vertical” enable_excerpt=”true” ]

    Can you let me know what’s going wrong.

    I’ve checked your site but I’m getting “403 Forbidden” error while accessing the login page (see: http://prntscr.com/8zs91g). However, upon looking at your site, it seems you are using a different recent posts plugin. If you are using Cornerstone, make sure you add X native recent posts element.

    Otherwise, open a separate thread and provide us with your URL, WordPress and FTP login credentials in a private reply so we can take a closer look to the issue. The longer threads get in the forum, they become more difficult to support as they tend to drift off topic and they also make it troublesome for users trying to search for solutions.

    Hi there,

    I’ve followed this thread and i’m not using the recent posts shortcode but I have a few queries.

    1. There’s no spacing between the posts in the feed, where can I sort this out as it looks awful.

    2. Where am I meant to enter the exerpt as there is no field on the posts editor or anything to specify that?

    3. Read More – Is it possible to have this?

    4. Sharing buttons – I’ve bought a plugin but it isnt showing.

    5. Post meta (author, tags etc) – This doesn’t seem to work either.

    If you could give me some advice on any of these then that would be much apprecaited as it seems to me that without these things sorted The X which is meant to be everything all in one for websites actually makes for a terrible blog site.

    Just the spacing between posts I mostly need to sort out now.
