WPML Translations image and page template not correctly shown

Hi there,

I’ve used the WPML translation editor with X and Cornerstone, and it worked fine. But now, with a new page and new translation, the images and page template and columns are not showed correctly. All the text and elements are visible in the editor and translated.

This is the Dutch page: https://www.ecovat.eu/projecten/
And this is the English translated page: https://www.ecovat.eu/projects/?lang=en

Any idea what is going wrong and how we can fix this?

Regards,
Linda

Hi Linda,

I checked and can see you have wp rocket installed. Can you try clearing wp-rocket cache and see if that resolves the issue.

If that doesn’t help, please provide us your wordpress admin login in Secure Note so we can take a closer look.

Thanks

I’ve cleared the cache and that didn’t work. I’ve sent you the admin login in secure note. Thank you

Hi @lindavanrumpt,

Please check this related thread and make sure the setup is the same. https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/wpml-issue/48740/2

Another issue that I’m seeing is broken HTML element, please check it here https://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ecovat.eu%2Fprojects%2F%3Flang%3Den

And by finding it from the source code, it points here

You have added an extra </p> without a pair opening <p> and it causes layout issues. Please fix that first, and I’m not sure how it’s added, may I know how you translate it? From the look of it, it looks like you’re editing it through the shortcode in the standard editor instead of the builder as it loads empty in the builder.

Thanks!

Hi,

Where can I edit the source code?

The WPML settings are not the same, but I can’t just change that. The url structure of our whole website would change… This is a problem… We always had these WPML settings and before it worked perfectly. Did you change something in an update or so?

I’m a bit lost now. Everthing worked before, and if this problem can’t be solved, we would have to build a new website or redirect everthing because of the new url structure. That would cost us a lot of time and money.

Linda

Hey Linda,

I checked your content and there’s actually no syntax error but in the frontend an extra closing p tag is added. It’s most probably added by WordPress auto paragraph feature because you switched to the default WordPress text editor. I’d recommend you rebuild your page after reading the details below.

You’re also using V2 elements and WPML’s Translation Editor is only compatible with the Classic Elements. If you really need the translation editor, I’d recommend that you disable V2 Elements in X > Settings > Permissions > Macros.

Click on the Apply button then after that, the Update button under Save Settings.

It might not be necessary to switch to the Classic Section but just know that you can by following this tutorial: https://youtu.be/EZ0CJWUarmo

Hope that helps.

Hi Christian, I am going to try that, thank you.

When I select “disable the V2 elements”, will al my used/existing V2 elements in the pages wil be deleted?
Because I think I’ve used them here and there. And I don’t want all my pages to collapse.

Or is this only for new pages?

Regards,
Linda

Hello Linda,

Disabling v2 elements will affect the all pages in your site. It would be good if you re create your translation page in Cornerstone instead. Do not switch between editors so that it will not create an automatic paragraph feature in WordPress editor.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Do you mean that I create the Projects page again and then translate it in the Cornerstone editor? Not in the WPML translation editor?

Regards,
Linda

Hey Linda,

It sounds like that’s what Ruenel wants you to do. I’ll ask him for clarification when he gets back.

Because it looks like we have conflicting ideas here, I’ll just give a clear answer to your previous questions.

Using the Disable All V2 Elements Macro will not delete the existing V2 elements you’ve added to your page. In fact, you still will be able to edit existing V2 elements. It will just disable all v2 elements in the builder so you won’t be able to add new V2 elements to existing and new pages (or any post type where you’ve enabled Cornerstone).

Thanks.

Hey Linda,

Disabling V2 elements will no longer allow you to add v2 elements in all pages. If you have existing v2 elements, it will not be deleted. All the elements will still work as expected.

When editing a page in Cornerstone and you would like to edit the other translation page, please make use of the WMPL flags at the lower right corner of the page in the preview.

Hope this helps.
