Upload of theme x to wordpress

Hi there,

I seem to be unable to upload the theme to wordpress. I have no clue what this means:
“installing by upload the themes directly through /wp-content/themes.”
If i try to upload the zip directly via the themes page, I get the following error message on the next screen:
“This page isn’t working
plonk.net.au is currently unable to handle this request.
HTTP ERROR 500”

Really appreciate somebody walking me through this.
