I need to upgrade a bunch of sites that is still running 5.10 or older versions of X theme. What are the implications of upgrading to 6.5.5 and how should I go about it. What should I know. How are the accompanying plugins updated etc…?

Firstly, it would be best to do the update on a staging site first so that the live site will remain intact especially you are updating from an older version to the latest one. If you make the updates on the staging site, you will then be able to test and verify that everything is working fine.
