I have tried to upgrade from 6.0.4 to 6.2.5 and it stalls.
After waiting a very long time, I still see the following message which
confirms the upgrade did not work.
A new version of the theme “X (v6.2.5)” is available.
Is there a log file that you can point me to that might help figure out what is
causing this problem?

Thanks for writing in! Since you have missed some major updates, our automatic update process may not initiate correctly. The solution is to update your X theme and Cornerstone plugin manually for once, and from there you should be able to use automatic updates.
Please follow our manual update process mentioned here (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/setup-updating-your-themes-and-plugins/62). To install the latest version of Cornerstone plugin, you can simply delete the current version and then head over to X -> Validation section and wait for few seconds.

I am on version 3.2.5 of Cornerstone and version 6.0.4 of X theme.
So do I need to reinstall Cornerstone again once I get the X theme upgraded?

No, that is not necessary. You can update either of them first then the other next but please make sure both are updated.
