Site loads without template for a few seconds in firefox and safari

Hello,

Can you please check my site ashcroft-art.com and watch it load. It is fine in Chrome, but in both Safari and Firefox it takes a few seconds and shows the menu in unformatted text down the left side before loading.

Can you help me figure out what could be causing this and how to fix?

Thank you.

Hello @shughesd,

Thanks for writing in!

I can see that the issue is happening in Chrome browser as well. Further checking the website in dev tools I see that you have enabled Cloudflare and issue might be causing because of the conflict in pre leading. Frist, please try clearing Cloudflare cache. In case problem is still there, put Cloudflare in development mode and test the case again.

I also suggest you to test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third-party plugins, and see if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

If you still have problems kindly get back to us with the result of the steps above and URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard using the Secure Note functionality of the post to follow up the case.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you!

I have deactivated all plugins (except cornerstone ) an the same thing keeps occurring. I have deleted all caches each time I deactivated the plugin.

I don’t this this happening on Chrome.

If you could have a look that would be great. Not happy client.

Hey @shughesd,

Like Prasant, I see that this is happening in Chrome too. This is not because of our theme though. This is a result of incorrect optimization. It’s either Autoptimize or Cloudflare that is doing that. Technically, what is happening here is that your optimization setup combines all the CSS in your site and loads the CSS after everything’s loaded. That is not what our theme does. The CSS in our theme is loaded in a standard way.

Deactivating plugins won’t help with this because:

  1. Autoptimize has caching and it might work even if it’s deactivated.
  2. Cloudflare has caching too.

Please clear all caches and then deactivate Autoptimize and Cloudflare. I’m not saying that they should not be used though. They only need to be properly configured. Even if you’ll be using a different theme, if optimization tools aren’t properly configured, you’ll be seeing the same result. Please consult a profession website optimization specialist for this.

Thanks.

Hi Christian.

Thank you for that…exactly the kind of insight I was looking for. I am guessing it is Autoptimize as I had that before CloudFlare and it has been happening for a while. It didn’t change when I deactivated the plugin, but I will be very diligent about clearing all caches and temp css files and try again.

Do you have any idea what kind of settings I should be looking at adjusting to remedy this?

I appreciate your help.

You’re welcome, @shughesd. Regretfully, we do not have settings to recommend other than to check if the plugin the ability to not optimize the site for logged in users. You need to check with the plugin developer for that.

For website optimization in general, it’s best to enlist a professional’s help. You might want to job site’s like Upwork for that.

Thanks.
