Set size for column images

Hi Guys,

I’m looking to achieve the attached effect.

Can you tell me how I would determine what the ideal column width and height dimensions should be so I can tailor the images to sit and stay level on each row with even spacing. I’m struggling to determine what the height or width should be, or even the aspect ratio that would allow the site to resize responsively while still maintaining the grid structure.

Any help would be gratefully received!
