Renew Theme - Remove Blog Title and associated H1 element completely

For The Renew theme under Blog Options >> Blog Title we would like to remove the title/element completely.

  • I know having duplicate H1 tags is structurally allowed but how does it not confuse Google? If you could go into the full SEO reasoning on this please.
  • Editing the CSS only will just hide the element

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi,

To remove it, create file _landmark-header.php in wp-content/themes/x-child/framework/legacy/cranium/headers/views/renew then copy the code below into that file.

<?php

// =============================================================================
// VIEWS/RENEW/_LANDMARK-HEADER.PHP
// -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
// Handles content output of large headers for key pages such as the blog or
// search results.
// =============================================================================

$disable_page_title = get_post_meta( get_the_ID(), '_x_entry_disable_page_title', true );
$breadcrumbs        = x_get_option( 'x_breadcrumb_display' );

?>

<?php if ( ! x_is_blank( 1 ) && ! x_is_blank( 2 ) && ! x_is_blank( 4 ) && ! x_is_blank( 5 ) ) : ?>
  <?php if ( is_page() && $disable_page_title == 'on' ) : ?>

  <?php else : ?>

    <header class="x-header-landmark">
      <div class="x-container max width">

            <?php

            $title = ( $meta['archive-title'] != '' ) ? $meta['archive-title'] : __( 'Category Archive', '__x__' );

            <h1 class="h-landmark"><span><?php echo $title ?></span></h1>

          <?php elseif ( is_404() ) : ?>

            <h1 class="h-landmark"><span><?php _e( 'Oops!', '__x__' ); ?></span></h1>

          <?php elseif ( is_year() ) : ?>

            <h1 class="h-landmark"><span><?php _e( 'Post Archive by Year', '__x__' ); ?></span></h1>

          <?php elseif ( is_month() ) : ?>

            <h1 class="h-landmark"><span><?php _e( 'Post Archive by Month', '__x__' ); ?></span></h1>

          <?php elseif ( is_day() ) : ?>

            <h1 class="h-landmark"><span><?php _e( 'Post Archive by Day', '__x__' ); ?></span></h1>

          <?php elseif ( x_is_portfolio() ) : ?>

          <?php endif; ?>

          </div>

          <?php if ( $breadcrumbs == '1' ) : ?>
            <?php if ( ! is_front_page() && ! x_is_portfolio() ) : ?>
              <div class="x-breadcrumbs-wrap">
                <?php x_breadcrumbs(); ?>
              </div>
            <?php endif; ?>
          <?php endif; ?>

          <?php if ( x_is_portfolio() ) : ?>
            <div class="x-breadcrumbs-wrap">
              <?php x_portfolio_filters(); ?>
            </div>
          <?php endif; ?>

        </div>
      </div>
    </header>

  <?php endif; ?>
<?php endif; ?>

In the code I provided, find the line <h1 class="h-landmark"><span><?php echo x_get_option( 'x_renew_blog_title' ); ?></span></h1> and remove it.

In case you haven’t installed a child theme yet, please review the links below

Thanks

Thank you!

Once we make those changes to the child theme, how do we then apply that to all other posts? Right now our posts have a different theme applied until we click “update” to each post.

What steps would be needed after that to make the child theme our main theme to publish live to the web?

Hi Tom,

That should be applicable for all post. But I’m not sure what you mean by a different theme and your last question. The code will not work if there are different theme and if the child theme isn’t active. It will still work if you publish or move your site live as long as X theme and its child theme is active.

Cheers!

Thanks Rad I believe you answered my question. What I meant by different was the child theme to X. Is there a way to update all existing posts so they display the child theme? Right now I have to go to each one and click update in order for them to display the active child theme.

Thanks!

Hi Tom,

I’m still confused about the child theme and post. The child theme is not post specific, it will applicable regardless of post type or pages. Would you mind providing a video recording of the issue about the child theme that needs manual update?

Thanks!
