Plugins wont activate they have an error

I’m having an issue trying to install and activate plugins, specifically The Grid and Essential Grid. I’ve deleted using FTP and reinstalled. Still the same problem.

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home2/redeigei/public_html/wp-content/plugins/the-grid/includes/item-skin.class.php on line 54

Hi,

I have tried on my test sites but could not replicate the issue.

Can you confirm that you are fully updated? (Theme and Plugins)

You can find the latest version numbers here: (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-version-compatibility/195) Then you can compare them to what’s installed on your site.

If you find anything to be out of date, you can review our update guide.

Thanks

Yup, everything is up to date.

Pro: 2.3.6

and both The Grid and Essential Grid are showing the latest version after installing from the Extensions page

Hi there,

Please login through FTP then go to wp-content/plugins then delete the current the-grid directory that is in there.

Once deleted, log back in to the Wordpress admin and reinstall The Grid from the X panel.

Try enabling the grid again.

Let us know how it goes.

Hey,

Yes I did that, when attempting to install the plugin it will say there is an error.

I’m using Pro: 2.3.6

Hi again,

Thank you for providing the credentials. I checked your setup and I see you’ve an old version of PHP installed v5.2.17 and WordPress 4.9 requires at least 7.2 (https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/). This could possibly be the cause of the issue. In most cases you cannot update your PHP version yourself and need to contact your host about this. The upgrade process is an easy process and should be something your host can do for you without affecting your website or charging you for it. Here’s a letter you can send to your hosting company:

I’m interested in running the open-source WordPress <https://wordpress.org/>
web software and I was wondering if my account supported the following:

- PHP 7.2 or greater
- MySQL 5.6 or greater OR MariaDB 10.0 or greater
- Nginx or Apache with mod_rewrite module
- HTTPS support

Thanks!

Upgrading the PHP version should fix the issue. Let us know how this goes!

The host updated the PHP beyond what I could do.

Thanks for the help!

You’re welcome!
