Newbie - getting started

Hello!

I’m new to WordPress and X.
Getting started I installed the X-Theme and uploaded a Demo.
I got the design of X-Theme but I cannot edit the pages in cornerstone.
Am I still in demo mode?

How can I get the cornerstone editor to work?

How can I install the child theme?
The provided download isn’t in a zip format.

Have you registered your license yet? You can do that here https://theme.co/apex/licenses

There is an intro to using Cornerstone here https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/cornerstone-content-builder-introduction/118

You can download the child theme in zip format here https://theme.co/apex/dashboard

And then here’s how to install the child theme https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/setup-how-to-setup-child-themes/57

Hope this helps :slight_smile:

Hi, @ichibanj thanks for the reply!

@Kalb hope you got your answer.

Thanks

@ichibanj thank you for your reply

My license page looks like this: Is there anything missing?

When I go on your link and download the child theme, there is no zip file in the download.
So I cannot use the downloaded files to upload on WordPress.
(I’m using a MacBook Pro)

I never reach this layout section of Cornerstone:
This is a screenshot from theme.co

All I can see is that:

When I go on „EDIT“ from here, a blank screen appears on the right

@basanta

No, I didn’t get my answers yet.

I hoped you could have a quick look into my WordPress settings to tell me what’s missing.

Is this forum the wright way to get the included support for the first 6 months?

I know it can be boring to answer beginner’s questions.
But I just don’t know how to go on from here and need some more help.

Thank you,
Nicolai

Hi @Kalb,

There is some sort of redirect and an internal server error. Would you mind providing your FTP login credentials as well?

For the meantime, please check for the following first:

  1. Ensure everything is up to date according to our version compatibility list at https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-version-compatibility/195. Please follow the best practices when updating your theme and plugins. See https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/setup-updating-your-themes-and-plugins/62 for more details.

  2. Clear all caches including browser cache then deactivate your caching plugins and other optimization plugins.

  3. If you’re using a CDN, please clear the CDN’s cache and disable optimization services.

  4. Test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

  5. Remove custom CSS, Javascript and templates.

  6. Reset your htaccess file by renaming it to .htaccess-bak. Then in WP Admin Menu, go to Settings > Permalinks and just click the Save Changes button.

  7. Contact your host to increase your allocated memory or do it yourself by adding this code in your wp-config.php

define( 'WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M' );
define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', '512M' );

About the zip package, your browser automatically extracts them upon download. Please check this https://wiki.umbc.edu/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=31919091.

Yes, we only provide support here in the forum :slight_smile:

Thanks.

Hello @Rad

Thank you for getting me back on track!
After editing wp-config.php I finally could start to work with cornerstone.

Moving from the old theme to X and playing with some demos, the site is in a big mess. But I’ll come along with that.

Could also install the child theme. Thanks for the hint!

I didn’t totally understand your points 2,3,5 and 6. At the moment cornerstone works very smoothly, but if you still think some of these points are necessary to deal with, let me know.

I still would appreciate if you could check what you saw „of redirect and an internal server error“.

There is also an issue, that the website is identified by google chrome as „not secure“. Any hints on that are welcome!

Hey @Kalb,

Since Cornerstone is already working now, we will not be able to see the redirect and the internal server error that @Rad saw. Not sure about the “not secure” issue. Please open a separate thread for it to avoid confusion when the thread goes longer and give us more details and screenshots.

Thanks.
