New WPML feature on Pro

Hi,

the latest update brought a language switcher when editing content with Pro.
I can’t seem to find any documentation for it. Am I overlooking it?

I’m in particular interested in the way this way of WPML support differs from WPML’s content editor.
The WPML way makes it easy to keep all pages in synch with each other, but isn’t that easy to use because it will hold HTML attributes as well. The new PRO feature promises to be interesting but I’m very curious on how this was designed and intended to be used to make sure alle pages have the same content but in different languages. Hence my search for documentation :grinning:
I’m sure I won’t be the only one wondering…

Hey there,

There’s currently no documentation yet. The language switcher is in the lower right corner of the page. To translate, switch to another language and you’ll be asked to start a blank page or copy the content so you only translate it. If you don’t see the switcher, please check for the following:

  1. Ensure everything is up to date according to our version compatibility list at https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-version-compatibility/195. Please follow the best practices when updating your theme and plugins. See https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/setup-updating-your-themes-and-plugins/62 for more details.

  2. Clear all caches including browser cache then deactivate your caching plugins and other optimization plugins.

  3. If you’re using a CDN, please clear the CDN’s cache and disable optimization services.

  4. Test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

  5. Remove custom CSS, Javascript and templates.

If nothing helps, please give us WP Admin and cPanel access in a Secure Note so we could look deeper.

Thanks.

Hi!
I see that language switcher, it works as expected. But that wasn’t my question.
I was wondering how it works, compared to WPML’s editor. How do we keep content in synch between languages? WPML tracks changes to the source and then urges you to update the translations. What’s the intended way to keep track of changes in this awesome new Pro feuture?

Hi there,

The only way is to translate them independently, like from here https://www.dropbox.com/s/5oq0a5f7s2fd852/CornerstoneTranslation.mp4?dl=0

Syncing may not fully work since it’s basically applicable for standard content (eg. editor content). But since cornerstone uses shortcodes, preset, and stored data, there is no way to 100% sync it. Manual translation is a must.

Thanks!
