Mismatch between Origin and Preview: Cornerstone & Siteground

I cannot get Cornerstone to work due to the error below. What is happening is that the preview is trying to go to my regular site instead of my staging site. My development license goes to the Origin site listed below.

It is not possible to change the website url in Settings/General. Siteground bounces you out.

Is there any workaround for this at all?

The preview could not load due to misconfigured URLs. This could happen if you are using multiple environments and the site URL was not updated after migrating.

Origin URL: https://staging1.dancingupsidedown.com

Preview URL: https://dancingupsidedown.com/

Hello @islandowl,

Thanks for writing in!

This issue is coming because of mismatch in the URL’s. You can change the WordPress URL using wp-config.php file. To do that please take a look at following tutorial and scroll down to second point which states Change WordPress URL in wp-config.php File.

Thanks.

Thanks Prasant. I actually dumped Siteground’s Staging and cloned my site into a development subdomain.
That said, your instructions at this KB are incorrect and cause a serious problem. https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-builder-preview-warnings/14404
Scroll down until you see the section about a work-around for Siteground and you will see

To workaround the issue for now, they are recommending that you change the URLs before and after deploying. Here’s a guide for that process:

  1. After creating your staging environment, go to Settings > General in your dashboard. Update the WordPress and site URLs to match the staging URL. For example staging-1-2-3.yourdomain.com
  2. Work on your site as usual.
  3. Before redeploying to production, go back and return the URLs to the production URL. If you fail to set the URL back before deploying, it will break the URLs on the production site.

The problem with those instructions are twofold:

  1. Since Siteground is using the same database for both their Staging site AND the Live site, if you change the WP URL it changes it for the live site as well. So it crashes your site - at least to the point that no links work and no images show up. Not good. You might as well being Cowboy Coding!
  2. Plus for me, even though it was crashing my live site it was still not letting Cornerstone load. It just created a HUGE MESS.

My suggestion is:

  1. Remove that section from the above link.
  2. Tell people who are on Siteground to do a clone instead of using their staging tool.

Hello @islandowl,

Thanks for the feedback. I will forward this thread to our developers and the person in charge of the knowledge base.
